Well guys i was down on our farm today shotgun deer hunting. Well it was a slow morning and from the shots sounded like the neighbors weren't putting much driving pressure on the deer either and all in all it was a crappy day for deer movment on our farm but i can see why for all the blasting that was done yesterday......well anyways about 7:50 or so i see something out of the corner of my eye and i know its something other than the million freaken squirrels.......as i got to watching it as it was standing there peaking through a brush pile i came to the conclusion it was either a coyote or something else.......so i got ready to shoot cause if it were to be a coyote he was dead right as i could identify for sure it was a yote......well pretty soon the animal stepped out......IT WAS A BOBCAT!! I've never ever seen one before out in the wild but we know they are around cause neighbors have seen them on others farms. well he was hunting for his breakfast and jumped on a brushpile and out came a rabbit and the rabbit ran right for me with the bobcat lurching along behind it. The rabbit dove into a hole and the cat looked lost so i decide to mess around with him a bit and started lip squeeking to immitate a mouse, he turned to me like i had him on a rope and came to about 20 yards in the creek bed and sat down looking right at me. I dont kno how but after a 3 minute staring contest he made me and go real wide eyed and took off up and around the creek and was trying to put as many opsticals between me and him as possible. It was increadable, i never thought i'd get the chance to see one in the wild so close just because they are so shy, the neighbor to the north 3 miles has atleast 5 different cats on his 360 acres he's called in while hunting deer or coyotes, one he had a stare off with for 10 minutes at 7 YARDS. I wish i would have had the camera with me today, o well i guess a visual picture will have to do for now.

BTW our farm is in south central iowa.

Sorry for the long story its just a first for anyone in my family or hunting group to experience a bobcat in the wild and im glad i got to see him. I just wish the other 3 had got to see him too.....they did see the tracks that he left just so they knew i wasn't yanking their chain

That is a very cool story!! Most people go their whole lives in the outdoors never to see a wild bobcat. You may have to change your username to Bobcat, that is if some real nice guy doesn't already have it!

That's a great story huntin4life88! I can relate to that story. Here is mine. About a month ago, I was bowhunting near Springfield, NE. My stand was next to a creek bottom and I could see to the north about a quarter mile or so. After about 2 hours of nothing, I catch a glimpse of something running the fenceline towards me. Darting in and out of the tall grass and running the bean field. My binos show me that it is a bobcat! He eventually just stopped and was sitting there about 300 yards away. I decided to grab my doe estrous bleat can and give a couple calls. To my surprise, he snaps his head around and looks in my direction! After the 3rd call, he is running to me on a rope. Every time he would act like he lost interest, I'd give another call. He came within 40 yards until a neighbor decided to come down by me and get some fire wood!

The experience was awesome and the first I'd seen one in the wild as well. Reminded me a lot of your experience! Kinda cool. Good luck the rest of the season and here's to bobcats.
