Do deer always lose all there old coat before the new one comes in? This is a captive deer and he is totally bald except for his legs and head. He was close enough that I could have touched him and he is bald. I knew they lost there winter coat but I have never seen one like this.

Hey bud...could you turn that thing loose around my hunting ground....he looks like a keeper to me. As far as hair coat goes, I don't think they lose it all then grow it again. I would guess he has either rubbed it off or has a hair follicle disorder?????

Naw, he is using the 'Bonker method of scent control. He doesn't want us to get his scent.

What ever it is that is causing his hair loss definitely does not look like it is affecting his head gear any.

Hair loss or not he is a keeper.He could have gotten into some pretty thick scrub brush.He also could be experiencing what some of us 30 something guys are going through,"premature thinning"Ya know,"cornspots"

My thought is, he can't get away from his mate. He's penned up, and can't get away like usual. That will make your hair fall out. Just ask me.
