Was out for the first time this year this morning. Just getting into this game (shot my first deer with a bow last fall). Several little things have come up in the past week and a half that have stopped me from going up until this morning. I was in a stand on a small north facing ridge, with deer trails on each side of the stand going from the larger top field to the south and the smaller field down below me which has some scrapes in it. Saw a 4 pointer running straight away from me up on the top field, he came out of the ridge I was sitting in. He came from the east so I no he didn't wind me (SSE wind). I just caught a glimpse of him, so he possibly could have been chasing a doe. Then had a spike come out about 80 yards in front of me. Grunted twice and he trotted right into a shooting lane at 10 yards, unfortunately I only have my state wide any sex tag and wasn't going to waste it on him. Then saw another spike and what looked to be a doe with him, but it could have been a button buck I suppose. That's all the action I saw.
I've got another stand that is in a small ravine between a bean field and a cornfield. I can hunt the bean field side, but not the cornfield side. Seems like the bucks are going to be on lock down if they aren't already, food sources may be the ticket for morning and afternoon hunts. What do you guys think?
