What's it take for Arizona hunter to hunt Iowa?

My wifes uncle has 800 + acres of corn, beans and CRP land around the Ceder Rapids area.
I live in Arizona and bow hunt the small Couse Whitetail deer here in Arizona.
I visit in July and plan to retire to Iowa in a couple of years.
I get all goofy each July watching the "big"

deer munch on the corn and beans.
What are my bow hunting options?

Thanks

I live in North Liberty, which is a few mintues south of Cedar Rapids. First off to hunt Iowa you need a REALLY expereinced person to help ya out a bit. In a few years when you retire I might be mildly experienced so that'll do right??

Keep hanging about this site and you'll learn tons of info that'll help ya out once you get here!!

Welcome to the site!!

It will probably take you at least two years of getting preference points to draw. Start applying now.

A person from Arizona retiring to Iowa. Now that's a switch.

Well, It's looking more and more like a "working" retirement.

Mowing grass, working on houses, tractors, etc.
Anyway, Hope to get together with some of you when I get there.

Now since I live in Cedar Rapids I'd be happy to go scout it out for you free of charge. Best start applying next spring.

Whats it take for an Iowan to hunt elk in Arizona? Never seem to be able to draw for that public land down there?

Thanks for the offer, I've already scouted and memorized most of the deer trails.
Elk tags in Arizona are hard to get.
I've been applying for the last 10 years and was drawn once (in 2000). The hunt lasted 20 minutes into the first day and I bagged a 5x5 bull.
Best bet is to study the draw results and apply for a high percent draw and kill ratio hunt number.
Best unit is Unit 1, Unit 5B south is good too. I've seen bull elk between Williams and the South Rim of the Grand Canyon standing along side the road.

Good Huntin',

Hay Muddy,
I got word a 250-300 lb. 11 point was taken off the property last weekend.
I just may need a huntin' buddy to help with the lifting. How's your back?

my back is tip top. still young enough to be able to lift heavy items and still dumb enough to try it.

sounds like it must've been a brute of a deer. give a call next time you're in the CR area.
