What is a good time in the fall to collect NWSG seeds by hand? Mostly Switch and Indian we'll be collecting. Looking to collect some for fun..not sure how much we'll get collected but its worth a try.

I would say by mid September it should be ready...the easier it strips off the more mature the seeds are. Indian is one of the easiet to get by far and a lot can be collected by hand in a short time since you can grab several stems at once and strip the seeds off by hand. If the plants are brown and the seeds still in tact I guarantee you those will be ready. 
I have heard it is legal to collect along the roadsides in IA (for personal use only I am sure), but I would check first. It know it is legal to do in MO and got a copy of the laws from the Missouri Department of Conservation.
