Whisker Biscuit

I'm setting up my old FeatherMax for turkey hunting and am going to use a WB rest on it. I shot it a couple of time to set it up and on the second shot peeled a vane off. Anyone else have a problem with them tearing vanes off? If so, what type of fletching adhesive do you use to make them super tight to the shaft? I've heard that goat glue is really tough but have never used it before.

Any opinions?

I had the same problem when I shot the Whisker Bisquit. Then I put a drop of fletch tight or whatever type of glue your using on the front tip of the vane where it contacts the shaft. That took care of it.

Just a thought, or a question really, are you shooting aluminum shafts through a carbon WB? That might peel'em off. I don't know how much difference there is in size of the hole between the two, but its something to contemplate.

Regardless of rest I always "stitch" my feathers/vanes onto the arrows by putting a drop of glue on the front, and rear, of the fletch. Helps keep the normal wear and tear down. Works great, doesn't add any additional weight.

Speaking of glue I have had good results with Goat Tuff but started using Fastset Gel for fletching because of the great control you have with it. I like Goat Tuff for incerts. It sounds to me these other replies would cure your problem.

I agree 100%.

Bonker, I'm shooting carbons through a carbon rest. I've been using Fastset Gel and I do tack down the front edge of my vanes as well.

I'll mess around with some options. I was thinking I might use Blazers for the WB rest since they are shorter my thinking is there will be less contact with the rest.

I've got a Whisker Biscuit on my bow and am shooting carbons. I refletched all of my arrows using Goat Tuff and so far they've held up incredibly well. I've been shooting in a target league once a week, 80 arrow per session, and haven't had a single vane come loose. Goat Tuff sets really quickly. One thing I did to help protect the vanes from the bisuit was to add just a dab of the glue where the front tip of the vane meets the shaft. It may be a "belt and suspenders" technique, but I've been very pleased with the results.

I just got my new bow, put a whisker biscuit rest on it and fletched my own carbon arrows using a wrap and blazer vanes. I've got about 150 - 200 shots through my setup and no visible wear on the vanes yet.
