White bear

Not on the subject of deer but I came across this cool picture today of a white bear cub. It's not an albino & I would tend to believe very rare. The picture was taken June 6th this year in Warren county Pa.

that is by far probably the greatest picture i have ever seen. since you said it's not an albino, will the bear just outgrow the white hair or what?

Thanks guys, here's a couple more of it. Even though it's not albino it will stay white, hope it snows for bear season so nobody gets him!

These are awesome pictures. I did a search for ‘white bear cub in Pennsylvania’ and I found these same pics on another forum. They said that the cubs mother was hit by a car and the cub is now living in a zoo. If this is true then he’ll be safe, but I wish he could grow up free.

I wonder if this cub has some spiritual significance to Native Americans like a white buffalo calf does? He’s so cute, he looks like a Samoyed puppy. I wonder if he’ll stay white when he’s all grown.

i wonder if it could be a blonde black bear or if he'll become a cinammon (sp) black bear jus lighter?

Gosh Kat, I didn't hear the part about the mother getting hit by a car. I also hope it's not true & the cub gets to mature in the wild. I would tend to believe that it will stay white & I'm sure the Native Americans would have seen a white bear as a great spirit, I do. I'll have to try that search & see if I can get any more information.

The blonde color phase of a black bear isn't all that uncommon in parts of Canada, but didn't know about Pennsylvania. Cool pics for sure, but given a few years to mature in the wild, that cub would be a great trophy for some lucky bear hunter.

Those are cool pictures,I saw the same ones a co-worker had.He did mention the mother being hit by a car like Kat stated, but that was all he knew. Not sure if it will make our local news or paper,Warren Co. is a good ways North, but I've been watching just incase they do.

Here we'd call that little sucker a blonde, NWBuck is right, blondes are fairly common up here, as are chocolates and cinnamon colored ones. Not sure the ratio of colored bears in our black bear population but it's better than 25%, coolest bear I ever saw was a yearling blond, had dark circles around its eyes like a raccoon, was beautiful. Though I'm not much of a bear hunter, i see them often enough right around home and I have a thing for blondes so a nice mature blond in the fall would be in danger of me, the blacks are pretty safe!!!!
