Who doesn't use wraps on their arrows?

I like wraps as they customize the look of my arrow, make the arrow easier to see during and after the shot, and provide a better adhesion surface for my fletch than a bare shaft. They also look cool in your kill photos.I make my own. I have a buddy that runs a sign shop and I get free 3M vinyl from him.

Here are some I made up for my wife before our bear hunt this last sept.

I did use wraps but don't any more due to quality problems. Got tired of the wrap pealing apart. They are a pain to replace so it is easier to go without or go the old fashined way and dip them.

What do you dip them in? Regular paint, a plasic of some kind?

Thanks.

Dip them in dip tubes designed for this and use the paint made for this purpose too. I don't do this either. It does look cool but does nothing for the performance. A good hit will still be a good hit. A bad hit or miss… still a bad hit or miss.

Bonker, The traditional way is to dip them in Lacquer paints. However, It can be done with rattle cans of enamels. That's how I do these, then seal with clear before fletching. I use a small paint brush for the cresting, just holding in one hand and controlling the brush and spinning with the other.
I have used the original Iowawhitetail wraps in the past and only one has failed. The other 11 are still going strong.

Shovel, do you think that spray enamel would work on carbons and aluminums? I would think that it would bead up. Those wooden arrows look sweet though.

I used to dip and crest all of mine. Just ran out of time. Wraps are much easier but don't look as nice and aren't as personal but work just fine for visibility...

muddy,
Yes spray paint works.

Although you can't see the detail these were my favorite. White with black bands with a gold accent.

HCH.....sorry, didn't want to hijack your post.

I do like that orange wrap and vanes. I may have to try that color on some shafts of my own.
I'm wondering, since I'm out of the loop on modern compounds, Why the vanes so far forward? Do you get better flight?

I thought I read some where that the fletchings, vanes or feathers, should be as far back, tword the nock, as you can get them. Both helical and straight, but I'm not sure why. Is this distance changeable in any of the jigs?

Ive never used wraps, too cheap I guess. All I've used is $.99 flat white spray paint. Wipes off pretty easy with acetone when its time to refletch.

Are you guys using lacquer paints able to remove fletching glue, etc, w/o needing to repaint them? I always end up scratching all the paint off trying to get the old vanes off.

Another thing I've done is make small crests using white reflective tape from wally world auto dept. That stuff shows up extremely well in the dark when looking for a lost arrow, doesnt seem to affect flight any.

I put mine approx 3/4" from the nock. I use a bitzenberger and can place it anywhere I want. Mine fly great. I think that most guys stick with an inch from the nock or closer. Factory fletches on a store bought arrow are 3/4 of an inch.
