As I get older I wounder what in the world would I be doing if my grandfather wouldn'nt have taken me squirrel hunting and as I grew up my step father introducing me to duck hunting. Now I'm a seasoned deer, turkey, wild boar, elk, coyote, pheasant, bear and probably left something out hunter and all the thanks to anyone who had time to teach me about the outdoors. P.S. that is the main reason I moved here and all my family lives in the deep south. I sure love Iowa.

My father "taught" me to pheasant hunt. It wasn't the most ethical experience

, I'll spare everyone the details. At least it lit a fire, and I started reading about hunting other game. Then, I had a friend in junior high school who's family owned a farm just outside of town. They had timber that was great for deer and squirrels, and we would hunt pheasants on the ag land. We started trapping as well. Played around with casting lead bullets for muzzle loaders. Way back in '75, oh, the memories.... To sum it up, I guess my friend and I were more or less self taught.

My father-in-law introduced me to bowhunting about 8 years ago. Crazy thing is, I grew up on a large farm in west central Iowa and never hunted more than 3-4 times for pheasant and that was it! What was I thinking? Out of 7 kids and about 2,000 acres, none of us hunted! Now I look at it as heaven and an escape out of the city. Wish I could live there now, because bowhunting is all I think about. I will always owe my father-in-law for getting me started. Good topic!

My start was very much like JNRBROC's. As a matter of fact I could just about copy/paste and be done here.
