Why Feathers Are Better

As most of you know, I am a newcomer to bow hunting and all I have ever used is feathers, so this is a story about an "experience".
I was crusin the net and came across a site that had Gold Tip Hunter XT 5575 for about 70 bucks a dozen, nocks, inserts and FLETCHED. The site even let you pick the color of your FLETCHINGS. Did the order over the net with just a momentary thought that the shafts may have vanes instead of feathers, but the shafts were FLETCHED, which to me means feathers. The box arrived in three days (I was way impressed with the quick response). I opened it up and much to my surpise and dissapointment the shafts had vanes. That was on a Saturday so I waited until Monday to call the company. When I told the guy I wanted feathers he said "are you from out east somewhere?" Told him Iowa and he proceeded to ask why us easterners were so dedicated to feathers when vanes are so much better. I told him it depends on whoes web site you look at to say if feathers or vanes are better. I asked if I could return them and an even longer, but friendly, disscussion ensude. To make a $6.00 dollar phone call into a short "E", he never did say he wouldn't take them back, nor did he say he would. So I still have the shafts.
The lesson I leared was FLETCHED does not mean feathers, nor does it mean vanes, it just means there is somesort of surface for guidance/stabilization of the arrow affixed to the shaft.
BTW: He also said he only had right wing feathers on his shafts.
What am I gonna do with the arrows? Well...I think I'll peel the vanes of and re fletch with feathers.

i agree with you bonker, i like feathers even though they are kinda crappy in bad weather. my suggestion is to try a couple arrows with the vanes and see if they grow on you. if you are even half way impressed keep 4-6 of 'em for hunting in bad weather and do the rest up in feathers, that way you are set no matter what the weather.
