Wish me LUCK!!!

Alright guys, i need everyone to cross there fingers and wish me luck on recovering a bruiser that i shot this morning. It is a buck that i have several years worth of history with and it would be a dream come true to put my hands on him. He was slightly quartering to me at 18 yards when i sent the arrow through him. I think that the arrow hit a little high (Just over mid body line) and with the angle i believe that it came out just in front of his hind leg. There was white hair, guts and bright red blood on the arrow. This leads me to believe that i hit the top of the front lung, possibly liver and guys for sure. We only found a handful of tiny drops of blood for the first 70 yards. Then we found where he bedded up and his trail leaving the bed where we bumped him. There was blood flowing out both sides of him after he got out of his bed. We followed it about 50 yards and then backed out. I am thinking about going back in at 4:30 to get back on the blood trail. Any advise? I backed out and 11:45, that would give him another 4 hours to expire.

Good luck man...I'm no expert by any means but since you already jumped him the one time, I wouldn't want to do it twice. Maybe a little longer of a wait than what you are thinking. I would wait a little longer anyway. Maybe others won't agree. Good luck either way! Hope to see some harvest pics!

I would wait until tomorrow morning. But that is just me. He may still be alive and you bumped him once. Blood typically starts get sporadic after that. You bump him again it will be tough. Definitely sounds like a dead deer though. Goodluck in whatever you decide. Bring your bow and go slow and extremely quiet while glassing ahead. I would wait though, easy to say on the internet I know.

I'm sure he's a dead deer. How long until that point? Who knows. I'm kinda with Shedder on this one. Waiting long can't hurt. If you do go back in and bump him again you will not be a happy camper. Waiting sucks, but you're probably better off doing it. Is the land all private where no one else should be bothering him?

I would wait until tomorrow morning if it was me. i have found deer after 24 hours that were gut shot and still alive. I never see a reason not to wait it out.

Helped with a recovery on one Tuesday. Upon recovery, entrance was just behind the L front shoulder blade (mid-height), exit was on the backside of R ham. Arrow was sticking out about 14 inches according to the hunter. He watched the buck for 30+ minutes after the shot struggling - bed then up and walk to 15 yards then re-bed. Did that for 5-6 times.

Shot was at 7:30 am - we went back in at 12:30 - 5 hours. Damn buck got up and ran into a steep ditch. Couldn't get out and the archer drilled (I mean drilled) him at 60+ yards across the ravine and put him down for the count. Four of us were involved with the recovery and we couldn't believe the buck got up and ran after we looked over the initial shot and arrow path.

Tough son-of-a-bitches for sure. If you have the time to wait, I would take my time and go in with your bow handy.

Just my $.02 worth.

100% for certain, wait until tomorrow. Will already be tougher but he's dead, Just have to give him time. Morning for sure:)

May still be alive but by then can get another arrow in him.

He guys just a quick update, i found him this afternoon 40 yards from last blood! I will post pictures in a little bit. He is a stud of a buck and i am so happy it was a good ending!

x2, I have known a gut shot deer to survive, but I have known them to still be breathing a full 24 hours after the shot a couple of times.

Oooopppsss, should have read the last post!! Congrats, let's see him!!

Awesome! Glad he wasn't still kicking and got spooked! Looking forward to the pics!
