Wow...lots of deer movement

This past week I've noticed a large increase in the amount of deer sightings and movement during evening hours...and mid-day. I've seen 3 very large bucks on land I've been observing all year. I'd never seen the bucks up until now.
I travel at least two days a week in an area that covers Des Moines to Iowa City to Waterloo to Ames. It's great for seeing wildlife on the way!
I've noticed this same kind of shift for the past few years. Deer moving out of corn and into timber and beans during daylight hours in the late summer. It also seems to get a lot better when the corn starts to turn in September.
It just looks like the "fall" pattern is beginning to happen. I can't wait for the season.

They are definitely active in the daylight. The past couple days I've seen about 10 on the bike paths I take to work. I got within 15 feet of a doe on the path on Wednesday. Took a picture with my cell phone, but didn't turn out too well. She tollorated me (even walked toward me) for about 5 minutes at that distance until another biker came by and ruined the moment. I also got within 20 feet of a doe and fawn on the West side of the saylorville dam yesterday. I did get a good pic of the doe before she decided she had enough of me. I haven't seen any bucks lately, but I'm sure they are soon to come. On my way in this morning, I passed a doe and two fawns on the side of the path, but I was going to fast and scared them off when I went by. I'm glad they went the other way instead of into my path.

This weekend would be a good one for getting out early/late with your camera and binoculars to do some scouting.

Starting to see movement around 5 in the evening actually found a new fawn today while doing hay. I think this is the latest I've found a new one ?
