Yote calling

The other day while calling coyotes I managed to spot a dandy buck. I was layed up on a ridge overlooking a section of CRP, yes in South Dakota there are whole sections of neck deep bluestem. Anywho, when I first let loose on the rabbit in distress call what stands up, not a yote but a good buck. He took a look around, streached and bedded back down. I've done this before but never really taken notice of it. I think I will try to locate deer in CRP this way next year. Anyone ever experence this before?

The first fair buck I shot was out of a over the head high stand of Cavin Rock Switch Grass. I had learned from bird hunting the grass that the deer liked to bed in it. When the gun season opened I approached over looking a large fish bowl and whistled. Up he jumped and I had to time his bounds from the grass for a shot. I was very pumped at the time.

Ironwood, I know the deer love to bed in these huge CRP fields. The problem has always been how to get them up, locate for a spot-n-stalk. I do know that a bedded deer will get up every 3-4 hours to streach. The problen is I'm not going to lay up on a hill overlooking a patch of CRP and wait for it to happen. I figure I might be able to hit several CRP fields on a windy day and hopefully spot the buck I want to stalk. Like I said, I have been able to stand the deer up before with out spooking them out but it's always been while coyote hunting. I think I might try this tactic next year. Was wondering if anyone has used a coyote call to locate deer without busting them out?
