I'm in a strange mood today so I must ask...

Does anybody know at what point in history we stopped calling them skull mounts and started calling them "European" mounts? Who in the H-E- double hockey sticks came up with that anyway and how did it get so widely adopted? Has it always been that way and I just never realized it? It just occurs to me that for some reason in this country, there's a tendency to glamorize everything that occurs somewhere other than here like it must be somehow better. Italian leather...we raise the best cows in the world right here. French wine...I'll take Napa Valley anyday. And what makes French fries French anyway? Can anybody tell me what's so incredible about a BMW besides the name and price tag? Does Europe even have whitetails?

Anyway, I just got my skull mount done. I brought it home in my Dodge truck. I might start calling it my Native American mount though because that's what I think of when I see it.

A skull mount and an European mount are 2 totally different monunts.A skull mount is like from a kit you buy at Walmart and cut the skll cap off and wrap it with leather and put it on a plaque.A European mount shows the whole face of the deer.I guess the Europeans started that. LOL

Strange mood indeed.

Call it whatever you want. If you want to start a movement to call it something else, I am with ya.

What you got against Europeans? I'm pretty sure most of us are decended from them in the not to distant past. I don't know how skull mounts came to be called European but i think it sounds classy. Yeah we grow some good cows here, but the europeans are better at tanning than americans. That Italian leather is probably from an american beef hide. I needed a pair of tall riding boots to show my horse last year, everything I tried that was american made was stiff and fit poorly. Finally tried a pair of Italian boots, fit great and the leather is nice, cost more than any gun I own but I like them. I agree on the american made vehicles although my daily driver is a tacoma, built in california.

Ummmmmm....well this place used to be a little more lighthearted and fun which was the intention of this thread. From now on, I'll keep it to whitetails only.
