I was wonderin... this year for youth deer.. u need one adult per youth hunter... my lil bro is goin youth hunting this year with my moms bf! can i go with to watch him take his first deer and get it on tape or not? just thought i'd ask b/c a lot of questions are answered on here! just help if ya could! thanx guys

technically no!you are another set of eyes and ears to hunt with.don't get caught.i've been told it's illegal to take photos without a liscense,from a dnr officer.it all falls in that gray area of the law,and will depend on individual officers mood.
 
Yes you can go as long as you do not assist in the hunt. You can take all the video and still pics you want, definantly not against the law. Just don't do any deer drives with them and you'll be fine.
 
Vrod is correct, as long as you are out there with them you are participating in the hunt whether you are hunting or not. The DNR always says if you would question it yourself, dont do it. The DNR always looks at it in their point of view, if you are out there you possibly could, whether you would or not, help.
 
When they film hunting shows in iowa does the cameraman have to have a license? Seems like its pretty tough for non res to get tags. Seems unlikely they would both draw.
 
You need to call your local C.O. and ask him or her. I took my uncle hunting last December to film him on agun hunt. The C.O. said that was ok as long as thats all I did. A phone call is the only way to be sure how your C.O. feels about this.
 
I say, some of these regulations that are taking away from the outdoor experience of a family sharing the love for the hunt are total bullchit. On the other hand, as mentioned above, check with the local C.O.

A camera man, IMO, is not participating in the hunt, rather he is recording events. Not that it matters, but I say go have fun with your little Bro and shoot a big one on film and record it so you can enjoy it for years to come!
