Off topic football question.

This is a 1906 high school football team photo from Northeast, Pa. I played both high school and college football and have no clue what is hanging around the neck of the player in the first row second from left???

Any ideas?

Old school nose guard/protector. Cant imagine it being very protective but it was a different game back then.

Looks like a ventilated nut cup. Probably lost a bet and had to wear it around his neck for the team photo.

I had to google "turnover chain " because I too thought it may be a nut cup. I was concerned about what might pop up.
