    a buck named Nails

Well, I finally decided to take some time and share a very special hunt. With multiple family members helping out in different ways, I was able to take my best buck to date this past fall. The story started in late July when I began getting trailcam pics of a really nice 9-point my daughters...

    the Wide 9

I'm guessing he is a 3 1/2. I have his right side shed from last year and he put on a lot of beam length, but still has the stubby times. I'll let the air out of him!

    warm temps

Hope everyone's season is going as planned. I've come close to a few nice bucks here in West Virginia, but for one reason or another (pinned down with does and fawns, ran out of daylight, etc.), have not been able to close the deal. :( Say, the next three days here, they are calling for highs...

    Good luck!

If I am correct, Iowa's opener is this coming Saturday. The archery season here in West Virginia does not open until October 16, but I get a crack at them two weeks early as I am participating in an "urban" archery hunt at a local, rural housing development. Here's to a prosperous and safe...

    a few West Virginia bucks

Got these pics last week with my new Bushnell Trophy Cam. Still tinkering with the settings, but I am very pleased with the camera so far. The nice 8-point is definitely on the hit list this fall.

    extremely disappointed with myself

Well, it all started with a call from dad on Tuesday, he said a great 10-point was trailing a doe in the corner of his field just before dark. Since I have a stand on the ridge below that corner of the field, I chose to hunt it Thursday afternoon. It was cloudy and 55 with a gentle drizzle...

    Arrow wraps

Boneil - Super easy. Below are arrows I wrapped, fletched earlier in the fall. This was my first attempt at wrapping. I purchased the wraps from onestringer.com.

    FIELD REPORT

Here's an update from north-central West Virginia. They were cruising yesterday. First buck, a 7-point, came in at 8:30 and worked a scape for five minutes. Gave me the complete show! Rubbed his preorbital glands in the overhanging branch for five minutes, legs together and urinated in the...

    more details on mock scrapes

<span style='font-family: Verdana'>As a follow-up to gibbo80's post a couple weeks back about mock scrapes, I had a few questions myself. I have a couple of good stand locations I want to try to make better, and am going to experiment with mock scrapes this fall, specifically creating a scrape...
