Regarding being able to discern big bucks...I saw footage where they were zoomed way in on the heads of bedded bucks and you could literally see the raw pedicels. A close up view of a larger diameter pedicel would be a pretty reliable indicator to me.

Another vote here to get rid of them. Brushpiles are attractive to predators, also groundhogs. A resident groundhog can consume more of your foodplot than you would imagine.

Definitely agree that it is unlikely to be a regular trap...but while Iowa law requires deer stops, I have overheard people talking about their personal dislike with that requirement and that they build their own snares without them...FWIW.
