    Land prices / insane!!!

We went to look at a listing last week and there weren’t any pics on the listing that was up and when the listing realtor sent my realtor pics they were pics taken of a computer screen that was tilted. I guess they were hoping some people haven’t figured that one out yet.

    Land prices / insane!!!

The guy who bought the 1306 in van buren is trying to flip already and I can buy the main 700 acres for 11k per acre . Guess our farm across the road is worth 10k/acre then . Any takers ?

    Land prices / insane!!!

They weren’t the owners this time it sold. Just previous owners.

    Land prices / insane!!!

It sold for 8.875 . And Lee and Tiffany’s old farm which was 840 acres also sold for I believe over 9 million just before that.

    Land prices / insane!!!

Agree to disagree I don’t know what high quality farms you are talking about. We tried to get a couple guys together to go look at the 1300 acres in van buren that sold a while ago and there were multiple showings lined up and ended up sold to the first guy that put an offer on it. Also most...

    Land prices / insane!!!

I don’t necessarily agree with this as there are a lot of less desirable rec farms on the market these days for the same high prices as what good farms in good areas command that would sell quickly if they hit the market. What used to cost a premium to be in good managed areas with good...

    Season over December 31

Finally have a nice snow to sit out on the last day of the season even though the trek in didn’t seem worth it. So I’ll again say no you can’t take away the end of my muzzy season. Someday we will get a nice snow that sticks all through December like years ago. People talk about the shed bucks...

    Season over December 31

The deer hunting landscape has changed and reducing tags to 1 or shortening late muzzy by 10 days I don’t see making any difference. With every timber, ditch and crop field edge getting hunted it would be hard to make a difference. Leasing doesn’t help the situation , cell cams are a problem...

    Season over December 31

No thank you leave late muzzy season alone. To the guy saying it’s like shooting fish in a barrel it is not without the right weather and if so you could say the same to the early muzzy guys sitting on big hayfields.

Hypothetical: if money was no object

Easy, a Vail feeder for each farm and it would take the money is no object theory to keep them full year round.

    If you could change-

Get rid of cell cams!!! Should be illegal by definition of the law anyway !

Thoughts on bulk feeders and costs ?

So something interesting that I heard the other day about how some guys keep the feeders going during the season and if a target buck shows up on the cell cam sitting over them they immediately go in a pull the feeder and hunt the surrounding plots. And I’m just relaying a story because that’s...

Thoughts on bulk feeders and costs ?

Most of their farms aren’t that large . Our neighbor by Stockport has 2600 acres in a big spread out chunk. Now that’s a lot lol. Maybe not a lot compared to some big farms in south central Iowa but to get ahold of that in southeast Iowa took a few years.

Thoughts on bulk feeders and costs ?

Many of you like me have probably noticed a correlation between some guys who are feeding year round with bulk feeders and being successful at holding and killing specific deer if a guy could afford it. Im not sure if I quite agree with feeding them like cattle all year so they stay around but...

    Late muzzleloader

No not at all. Most years lately it seems I'm still praying for a good snow and cold snap before season closes.

    Taxidermist in Iowa buying Land

The only way I would partner up would be if you find a larger piece together but yet parcel it off so you each actually own half and then hunt and manage it together. then if things don’t work out down the road you still have your own farm . Would of course take the right layout with access for...

What’s more valuable for holding/producing/hunting deer? Crops vs crp?

It’s the Birmingham farm. We put a bunch in pollinator so did our partners and so did 2 of the immediate neighbors . Soil isn’t the best down there so it’s not like we ended up having 5 foot tall nice bedding. And the deer now like head out to the big crop fields to the north and east where the...
