    Switchgrass

We got some really warm and wet weather this past week and the warm season grasses have really took off since my mid-season mowing. The leading stems are about 4 foot tall and the wild flowers are blooming like crazy.

    Switchgrass

Did a mid-season mowing per contract yesterday. The foxtail is bad in some spots but other areas look great and didn't even need it. I honestly can't identify the switch but the farm office guys said it looks good. I was surprised to see many of the Black Eyed Susan flowering. The Prairie flower...

    Switchgrass

So I'll be planting a CRP mix Friday with a Great Plains No-till drill. The drill has 3 seed boxes. Below you can see the various species and seeds. The recommended plan/practice is to lump seed types together (flowers with flowers and switch with conservation cover) but after looking at the...

    Native Warm Season Grass

That's a lot of info and it will take some research to digest it all.... thank you. This field will be coming off a 5 year crop rotation with it currently in corn. Do you see any issue with planting in corn stubble and do you feel I still need a fall burn down after they pick in late October? I...

    Monster Ohio Buck

I've been a member here a long time and it's funny to see guys I know making a post I didn't start. I went and saw this buck the night it was recovered. I've got the score sheet but IMO it's only a very ruff guess. Many points are off the beam at a slant....they could go typical or abnormals. 60...

Bought me a New Holland and implements!

Came across (what I think was a great deal) on a tractor the other day and my wife suggested I buy it. This should help food plotting and working around the farm tremendously. I did some mowing with it today and used the bucket to haul some yard debris. No more wheel barrel for this guy! New...

    Switchgrass

Good....I need some road screen bad! The bare ground on the roadway is killing me. I'm going to broadcast a little on the edges and roll it in with a roller. Its's extra seen, 3 years old so its worth a shot.

    Switchgrass

Paul, will over seeding a little EW on the first year stand of switch effect the establishment in the long run?

    Switchgrass

Few pics from the other day. Most areas I planted are in the farmers previous year picked bean field but I wanted to try along the road where I did not do a fall kill off. I'm going to hit the fescue with a hard dowse of gly this week and we'll see what happens.

    Tree Planting

Just received an order of 80 white pines. They are 2-2's. I got 56 of them in the ground tonight. Using them to screen plots and the roadway. Any advice on making inexpensive cages?

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

Took a walk through my rye/clover plot I planted last fall. The clover looks good and shows a lot of sign of browse. Forgot to take a actual picture of the field but here is a close up. Knowing I sowed the seeds makes me smile. Thanks Paul!

    Switchgrass

Paul, Can you expand upon reading a seed label. Does the germination rate from the seeds companies testing that only that amount will germinate. Or does it mean that only that amount of seed is viable? Does the dormant mean that the seeds will not grow the first year or is it just bad seed...
