    Allamakee CWD Meetings

that's absolutely NOT what he said. I'm pretty sure the DNR has fewer biologists and law enforcement officers now than they did in 2002. What he said was that there are people who's careers have become CWD over the last 13 years. (out of necessity) There'd be plenty for them to do if they...

    Allamakee CWD Meetings

The positive tests are 1% of the total tests in that area. If the additional testing shows 1% again there's no reason to think this can't be kept at bay at least for a while. Illinois is apparently having success keeping CWD from growing into what Wisconsin has by jumping on small outbreaks...

    Allamakee CWD Meetings

I was at the Waukon meeting, when asked about that Willie Suchey said they estimate there are 1100 deer in the 30 or 31 square mile area. so the extra 150-200 are 14% to 18%

    Court Decision. DNR vs. Brakkes?

In short there was a deer breeding facility in Cerro Gordo county with CWD, animals from there ended up in Davis and Pottawattamie counties at high fence shooting facilities. The breeding facility is under Dept. of Ag jurisdiction and the shooting facilities are under DNR jurisdiction. all 3...

    FYI Iowa CWD court case

No science is EVER proven, it's always theory, that's how science works. Gravity is a theory. The real point of the post is that those fences NEED to stay up.

    Legal Question

It could get a bit sticky if you start thinking about it being baiting if any apples were to fall off the tree caused by shaking the tree as you climb to the stand. Technically, at least in my opinion, you would have "Placed" that fruit under the tree. hard to prove either way, and probably...

    Deer Numbers too high

it's not. The guys paying 8K are leveraging the ground they bought for $1500 to do it. At 8K you can't pencil out a profit unless you are averaging in acres bought much more cheaply.

    Deer Numbers too high

you do realize there is FAR more energy cost in a box of corn flakes than there is corn right? last I knew there was about 7 cents worth of corn in a box of corn flakes, call it double that now and you're talking about a 7 cent increase. Meat? livestock prices trade completely separately...

changing handgun cartridges legal for deer

Problem solved. I went to the NRC meeting today with a .40 S&W a .357 a .45 acp and a .38 special round (couldn't dig up any of the few .45 colt brass I have though) and told the commissioners that currently 3 of the 4 plus .45 colt are legal, with the proposed change the 40 S&W would be out...

Dove Bill, CALL TO ACTION NOW!!!

I was in the capital this morning, I went down for the NRC meeting on all the proposed hunting rule changes for fall and stopped in to talk to my state Senator Wilhelm. She is firmly on the fence. She grew up a farm girl (and I know she has done some fishing) so she understands our side but she...

    SF 83 Dove Bill (UPDATED)

Here's the latest on the Dove bill: Placement of the bill on the debate calendar and its subsequent passage are far from assured. Calls are running about 50/50 on the bill into the switchboard and among Senators that have heard from their districts. Several Senators have not heard from anyone at...

you can use it anytime you want, you just can't harvest a deer that belongs to all the residents of Iowa anytime you want. Do any of you NRLOs think the non landowning NR's want you sucking up the anysex tags just because you can pay for land?

changing handgun cartridges legal for deer

I don't know how many guys are out there that hunt with handguns in the semi auto calibers currently legal for deer but IDNR is proposing changing the caliber list to "Centerfire handguns must be .357 caliber or larger, use straight-walled cartridges with a case that is at least 1.16 inches long...

    Must read "iwill"

The P-R funds make up nearly half of the Wildlife Bureau budget. They are alotted to the states in 2 ways, first we get an alotment based on the physical size of the state, and a second alotment based on the number of hunters in the state. Also, it's paid "in the rears" it is a reimbersement...
