    Pitch Loblolly Pine Seedlings

Missouri DNR. I’d also be curious if anyone knows of additional sources for larger or potted ones. https://mdc12.mdc.mo.gov/Applications/TreeSeedling/Home/ProductDetails/58?

    Chestnuts

I would say it’s very likely. So far I’ve been using one stake but have also been mulching them all because it helps keep them from spinning (kinda locks them in place). My hope is that they can’t dig through the mulch as easy to get at the bottom of the tube. It’s a lot of work to mulch them...

    Chestnuts

You could try aluminum window screen? I have found a few girdled trees with mice nests in them but it is rare when using 5ft, “slick” tubes…I would avoid the tubes with ridges as it seems those may be easier to climb.

    Crab apples?

I’m 2 years into a 6 acre tree planting project that consists mostly of bedding/thermal cover trees but I’m also going to try to establish an orchard. I recently came across this site on another habitat forum and the owner is very well respected / highly recommended. I have several varieties of...

    Tannery’s specializing in Africa hides

Anybody know of places that would specialize in making “items” out of game hides here in the states. Looking for pillows, rugs, etc…asking for a friend. Always better with pictures. Thanks in advance! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Land prices / insane!!!

47 acres of hilly hay ground, with an average CSR of 47, sold recently for $720k within 30 minutes of ia city. Couple small drainage ditches that are too wet for farming but no real hunting cover either. Rather crazy even in the corridor for something not zoned commercial. Sent from my iPhone...

    Looking for eastern red cedar

Unfortunately I’ve worked through the few that I’ve located so far but will keep looking. Overgrown pasture is very limited here because clean corn/bean fields are king around here! Last fall I even went as far as adding my name to the “contractor” list with the local nrcs office in case anyone...

    Looking for eastern red cedar

The last couple years I’ve ordered from the ia dnr but it seems like they’re only able to supply 6-10” trees. Which were fine…just wish they were bigger. Maybe because they always sell out and can’t get another yr or two of growth before selling?? The first year I ordered they were really...

    Looking for eastern red cedar

I’m in the IA City area and trying to find some cedars to transplant by hand if anyone has any leads. Likely a couple hundred but doesn’t need to be that many. Looking to add cover to a south facing hillside late winter / early spring next year. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Explanations?

Guess I’m not seeing a broken antler in the 2020 pictures as it appears to just be a large spike unless I’m missing something... Unfortunately I never found anything that resembled the spike to confirm if it was broken or not. At any rate if it was broken then yes, I’d expect it to grow normal...

    Explanations?

Guess the order is reversed on my pics…2020 at the bottom and 2021 first set Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Explanations?

I’ll go against the grain on this one based on a buck from last year. First 2 pics from 2020 and his right side doesn’t appear to be broken and he seems healthy. I found his left side shed. Pics 3 & 4 from this year and has the same forward facing g4, tall / narrow makeup. Although I can’t say...

    Transplanting Cedars

Just throwing this up to see if anyone will be removing cedars from CRP plantings, over grown fields, etc. between now and next spring. I’m currently working on planting some old pasture to habitat and if anybody in the Iowa City / CR area knows of anyone that would be open to someone hand...

    Brassica Fertilizer

I don’t have a dog in this fight but I will say that just because there’s a BOB seed mix on the store shelf doesn’t mean it hasn’t been there for a year, two or maybe longer...I used to work for one of the largest hunting accessory companies and we routinely had to get updated seed labels sent...

    Acorns to Oaks!

I should’ve mentioned I would be direct seeding on a bare cattle pasture with south facing hillside...so my concern would be if too hot and dry for them right now... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Acorns to Oaks!

I have some red oak acorns and was planning to direct seed some and pot some. I’d like to get a head start soon since bow season will be here soon. Is it too early to direct seed acorns now or should I wait? If now is too early what’s usually a good date to aim for? Thanks Sent from my...

    Cattle Pasture

I really appreciate the input so far, thanks everyone. I’m also curious on the survival without supplemental watering. While it will be possible to water the trees to an extent (and I realize a lot of varieties may require it). Can you guys advise on specific bare root seedlings and plug...
