The traditional bowyer's bible volume 1,2, and 3 are some of the most informative books on the subject. I only have volume one but it is one of the best books on the subject, that I have found anyway. Another place for info would be leatherwall.com. The site is full of traditional shooters...

I have always shot split finger, it seems to work well for me. I never could get used to the idea of shooting three under. I did notice that the archery in schools program teaches three under, so it must work well.
