    Miscanthus x Gianteus

I'm interested in trying these as well and can meet whoever wherever to pick them up- I'd be in for at least 500 rhizomes.

    Timber Stand Improvment

Thanks! I actually spent a ton of time on only 1 1/2 acres this past winter and it turned out to be just about a clear cut after removing box elder, honey locust, honey suckle, and elm. There was only a couple cherry and about 8 walnuts left! I came back and planted oaks in their place, with...

    Timber Stand Improvment

Has anyone had any problems with doing this in forest preserve areas (tax break). I know they occasionally do surveys around here and they want at least 200-300 trees per acre or something along those lines? Just curious, because that is what is holding me back from being more aggressive with...

Food Plot - What blend would you choose?

I'm a big fan of variety, so in the larger food plots I would either do alternating strips or break them into chunks. I finally have deer eating turnips now after about 3-4 years of getting them educated that they can eat the bulbs.

    Hey Fishbonker

Now that's an upgrade! I would think you'd end up with straighter rows.

    ATV for food plotting

I agree with all of the previous threads, don't go below a 500 if you go the ATV route. I can only disc for about 15-20 minutes before I overheat if it is hot out, and it takes me close to 2 hours to disc, spread, cultipack a 1 acre food plot, get a cheap tractor if you can find one, if not...

    ATV for food plotting

Thanks! The telephone poles were free, I spent around $350 - $375, I probably spent around 12 hrs of actual work getting the telephone poles down there, secured, as level as possible, had to dig, etc. Put the 2 x4's on over a couple afternoons, built the ramps and adding the rail took about 7...

    ATV for food plotting

Telephone poles are the way to go if you can get them to where you need them! I had a buddy bring his skidsteer and we took them down a pretty steep bank to get to where this bridge is. It ended up being a little longer than I would have liked, just over 20' span.

My Knowledge & Solution quest for Info to combat EHD & TICKS....

I don't add anything to it, it does have a slight dried grains odor to it, so they should find it if you put it near a trail.

I use the Kent mineral 365 ADE and it goes fast, especially when the does are preparing, you can get it at any local Kent Dealer. https://kentfeeds.com/products/commercial-animals/beef/cowcalf/minerals

    Apple/Pear Trees

Your wife must be a saint! Either that or she's just as addicted as you are. I thought I had a problem when my bare-root shrubs/trees orders reached 600, but that many fruit/nut trees are way more work!

    Miscanthus x Gianteus

Does this stuff need full sun? Thinking about using some along an access road (North/South) through the timber or a fence row with large trees, where there is a decent amount of sunlight but not all day.

    Swamp Chestnut Oak

I planted 25 in Spring 2015, some of them were out of the 5' tubes by this past fall. I was a little unsure about survival but they were cheap from MDC, so, why not? I'm in East Central Iowa, west of Muscatine. Maybe they will die off when they get larger?

    Apple/Pear Trees

Thanks for the replies! I have seven trees that I planted this fall, grown from seed from a really old Granny Smith that puts out a ton of fruit every year, that I will try to graft onto in the Spring. (Not sure if it was grafted originally). I'm no expert but I'm having fun! Then I'm going...

    Brush Honeysuckle

I'm in Year 2 of a 13 Year War on honeysuckle, and yes tordon works in the winter, but I've only used it immediately after cutting the honeysuckle. This year, I'm experimenting with Tordon, diesel, and round up in a sprayer, because I'm trying to hit the bigger clumps of MFR while I'm out there...

    Deer movement update thread

Hang in there guys, I was completely bummed with the past 2 weeks, not seeing many deer if any at all. The corn finally went out this past weekend and yesterday afternoon (2 hr. sit till dark) I saw two - 2 1/2 yr old, one - 1 1/2 yr old, ten does/yearling does, a few button bucks, and finally...
