    Egyptian Wheat

Our EW held up extremely well after heavy snows in Iowa last year. I think it's unlikely that EW would blow down easily once the stalks die in the fall/winter. Last year was our first experience with EW and we were very pleased. We planted again this year and have a good stand. Good luck.

    Oak trees

oak trees, my advice (worth < than 2 cents) 1) Refer to "Dbletree's Corner". 2) Plant a variety of oaks and consider some hybrids for earlier production. 3) Read up on sawtooth oaks, especially for your area. I have some planted in Iowa and as in the south, they seem to grow quickly. One...

I had good luck with Coldstream Farms 2 years ago. Good looking trees, excellent survival rate.

    Road "Hunter"

About 5:45 pm, Monday, January 18th, someone shot a small 6 point from the road the runs by our farm. This "hunter" was driving a fairly late model, dark colored Chevy S-10 4x4 in Van Buren County. The deer lies rotting in the field. The landowners on and around this property would be...

dogs for deer tracking I don't know the specifics of this bill but the one experience I had with a dog trained for tracking allowed me to find a deer I'd wounded. A couple of friends and I had searched for quite a while and had pretty much given up. We called a friend whose lab had been...

    Breakfast sausage

A friend taught me to mix about 1/4 strength, cook a patty and taste it, then go from there. Works pretty well if you're trying a new brand of sausage mix.

Hogs!!! If you ever see any kill them fast!!

You don't want hogs in your area. We have plenty of them on the hunting clubs located between the Ms river and the levee, where much of the hunting area is in my part of Ms. They destroy food plots and crops. Hunting clubs shoot them on sight, try traps, dogs, etc. The numbers can be kept...

Roundup Ready Corn & Soybean Food Plot

when to plant beans... Skip, From what I've seen in Ms, late planted beans get hammered. My guess is that they are the best tasting thing around if planted late in the season after most beans are planted. I've seen early planted beans do quite well and I assume there are other things in the...

    Scoutguard SG550 camera question

Reviews for the HCO Scoutguard SG550 digital IR camera look pretty good at about $200. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this camera if you have any experience with it. Or maybe you know of a camera you think is better...that would be interesting to hear, also. I'd like to put out a camera or...

    A good word about Iowans!!!

Why would a non-resident.... Why would a non-resident from Mississippi, hoping to retire in a few years, buy land in Iowa? It ain't all about hunting.

    Question about ATV mowers

Is there a mower available that can be pulled behind a 4-wheeler and be set high enough to mow clovers, grasses, etc? I'd be interested in knowing what may be available, reliability of products, approximate costs, positives and negatives when compared to using a 4-wheeler rather than a tractor...

    SSB 1225/non-res landowner tags

As a non-resident landowner in Iowa, I'd like to see this bill passed with the provision that some minimum number of acres be owned....say 40-80 acres. It's stated in another post that ownership of 320 acres might be required, which seems like an awful lot to me. I've really enjoyed my visits...
