Brother's bow kill

Posting for Russ "Long story short, having a baby in two weeks, so hunting days were going to be few and far between. I haven't shot my bow all year, been busy with work and cattle and family. I just bought my tag last night, dusted off the bow, and shot at 20yds since I knew where I wanted to go I was only going to get a 20 yard shot. It was still dead on.

Got set this morning a little later than I wanted to (the walk in took a lot longer than I had thought). This spot is in the bedding area, so the plan was to sit all day. About 745-800 two bucks are walking the standing corn edge right to me but down wind. I didn't get the greatest look at them but thought the first one looked pretty nice. They were a little on edge and sniffing the air but carried on to my shooting lane. I let the arrow fly and just missed over his back (he ducked pretty hard). They stayed within 60 yards for the next 10-15 minutes so I got a better look at them. The one I missed was a nice ten, hell of a three year old that I really didn't need to shoot anyway. lol

They walked off and for the next two hours I had 15 doe/fawn file by on a 20 yard trail...if they were bucks it would be a chip shot.
It was 10:00 and I started digging in my pack for my sandwich, all of a sudden I hear a few grunts coming down the trail. Look down and didn't need the binoculars to know it was a big one. He followed the same path all the other deer took, it was picture perfect and I made this shot count. He ran 40-50 yards and died.

We put the tape to him and got a gross of 192" with 17 scoreable points."

What a tank! Amazing how quick those long tines add up!

When we had pictures of him we thought 170s pretty easy. Then on the ground thought about the same. Then put the tape to the tines and 14"+ G2s make up some inches quick, we about crapped when we taped him out. Didn't believe it so I taped him and got 1" bigger. haha Then heald him up to some other bucks on the wall and ya, he looked real large then!

What an awesome trophy. Buck of a lifetime to most people. A nice extra bonus to have some live pics of him too.

Awesome, that miss worked out pretty good for him! Cool story and neat to see how he progressed through the years!

Wow, awesome deer, love the left g-2.

Does it get any easier than that lol? Dust off the bow, shoot a couple shots at 20 yards, go hunt the next morning and have a 190 come walk down the trail at 20 yards.

Incredible buck Russ! You guys definitely put in the work over the years so even though that hunt particular hunt was short I know you guys put in a ton of time and effort into habitat improvement and passing the young ones so they can get to be 190 inch giants! Congrats!

When it happens - it just happens. Way to make the moment count Russ. That buck is a superb whitetail.
