Sligh1 - October 1 Buck, Great Opener! "REST OF THE STORY"....

That is a monster, once in a life timer! Congrats, thanks for sharing the story and pics.

I had to come to the site to check out the harvest report when I saw who I thought looked like Skip holding a monster whitetail on twitter. I was correct.

Wow!!! Mass monster! Beast! Cooker! Whatever you wish to say, that is an incredible deer. Congrats.

Here's what I find funny.... I had a friend this year i know looking to buy a farm 40-50 miles from there he's really interested in buying.
He has seen the deer with me on my land in the past- good friend that knew about this deer for a long time like i have & we share our stories & season outlook, etc. He looked at the deer after i got him. 2 days ago he gets my pic from someone else and "this buck was killed within 1 mile of the farm u are looking at!" Oh geez. Last year- same thing with my bro's buck - heard about 5 different stories about it. Ha. Kinda funny, kinda like- why would anyone "change a story"?! Ha. Guess that stuff will always go on. As long as I don't ever hear absurd crazy stuff ill just laugh. ;). I'll admit- i love seeing pics of big deer. 10-20 times a season I get a text "dude, look what a guy I know in Wisconsin shot" or something like that and that's fun to see. Good luck to u guys. Gonna be an incredible season ahead and ill bet some beastly monsters on here soon enough!

Thanks for comments guys. Hope u all have some fun and great experiences & memories out there this year.

I haven't heard any absurd stories yet. Just the nearest town(which out of respect to you I wont say) and " hey check out this stud that was taken already". I know what you mean, though. I don't understand the motive to skew a story about a big deer. As we all know, large bone growing out of an animals head make some guys do weird and crazy things.

Zone 10. Middleville area. Funny part was.... I took the pictures of the buck at my house. Apparently it showed up when i texted my buddies - where pic was taken. So- if anyone went off that- they would be off by a ways ;). I'm blessed to have some different places to go and in all honesty- it doesn't mean one place is better than the others- having a deer like that is just a random luck of the draw on genetics and him living. It could have come from another spot I go to 50 miles from this. Unfortunate truth I will admit & totally ok with - that's pretty much it on this farm for big deer. Management bucks and does and I'm really stoked to get some old bullies down on this farm, have some buddies out and get some does. I'm always curious where xyz deer came from but honestly- it doesn't matter. Luck, genetics and well managed areas (and often poor management too! Heck- public!) big deer can come from anywhere in our great state.

It's hard to take anyone's so called hit list seriously when you see something like that. Awesome

Could just be as simple as people get facts wrong or mixed up, and it snowballs into something completely different. Just play the telephone game and see how the message comes out different at the end.

Anyway, great buck Sligh. Congrats!

Congrats, what a great buck, just an absolute slob. Huge body, huge rack. Passing him last year was probably tough, but well worth it now. You deserve it with all the work you put it. Congrats again!

Good point but I have seen some that are more than just a "snowball mix up" and was clearly trying to tarnish someone's accomplishment or take credit for something they really didn't do. Anyway, I digress.

Yep, was just throwing that out there. Some stories get stretched or flat out changed for the worse I'm sure, for whatever reason. If I'm the one changing it, it's because I remember it incorrectly.
