DNR Adds Second Winter Trout Fishery to Des Moines Area
DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has added a second metro area water body to its popular winter trout stocking schedule.
Beginning Nov. 7, the DNR will add 1,400 rainbow trout to the DMACC pond in Ankeny. The DMACC pond will receive stockings in March and again on April 4. The trout are from the Decorah hatchery in Decorah.
South Banner Lake, first stocked with trout in 2004, will receive 1,700 rainbow trout on Oct. 24, then another 1,700 around Thanksgiving. The trout are from the Big Spring hatchery in Elkader.
Anglers who want to fish for the trout are required to purchase a trout stamp ($11) in addition to an Iowa fishing license. The daily bag limit for trout is five and the possession limit is 10.
