    Switchgrass

Thanks guys. If I were in it for biofuel I would be stoked. I read a Purdue U. manual that talked about disking the switch after a burn to tame it back a bit. May do a small trial area. Seems to be a bit of a shame to kill it back now that it has turned into exactly what I THOUGHT I wanted. I'll...

    Switchgrass

Hi guys...it's been a while. Thanks to the great advice I received here, I now have roughly 25 acres of beautiful CIR and Kanlow switch stands on our farm in central WI. We used swith to surround sizable Ag fields as visual screens that allow us to get in and out of our stands. That has been a...

    Switchgrass

I planted Egyptian wheat into newly planted Switch (same year-2014). I am sure the competition set it back but I was inpatient waiting for a visual screen. I will let you know how the switch with the EW faired as I have pure switch right next to it.

    Switchgrass

As for drilling switch...I had this done professionally last year because I learned about frost seeding too late in the game & the company was working on a Wetland reserve project elsewhere on my property. It was planted in early June in central Wisconsin and did very well on my higher sights...

    Switchgrass

I got my SFM75 from Keystone and as I knew it is a powder. I was hoping it would come with a volumetric measuring device but it does not. I dont have a way of weighing such small amounts as 2-4 oz. I know this issue has been touched on before but does anyone have a weight to volume conversion...

Gotcha! Thanks for the clarification. We've been getting down to ~32degrees F at night. Pretty heavy frost this am.

    Switchgrass

Thanks Paul. Is there a soil temperature in the fall that correlates to switchgrass dormancy? Should it be completely brown? Unfortunately, I will not be able to apply the SFA75 for another week or two on the sites to plant this winter. Is this harmful to the frost seeded switch or just less...

    Switchgrass

Paul (and anyone else), I have tried to read most of this thread and I feel as though I have learned a lot. I really appreciate all the advice everyone gives but I am a bit confused about the use of SFA-75 this fall. I had understood that SFA-75 was safe on growing SG as long as it is dormant...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

Sorry...based on your 7/1/14 entry it looks like I can just use crimson for both.

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

I am getting ready to order my seed for my fall plots & especially the cereal grain rotation. So as to limit the different kind of seed that I need to order, can I use Crimson Clover for my "fall red clover" and my spring "soil builder red clover". This fall I will use your most recent recipe...

P.S. hoping to spray 1st/2nd year SG this weekend??

    Switchgrass

I do see your reply above Paul about it being risky to apply glypho now but is there a soil temperature threshhold below which spraying may still be safe? Wisconsin has been very cold & wet this spring!

    Switchgrass

P.S. does anyone have a recommendation for a cheap, durable cool season grass that I can use for my vehicle trails that I mow around my farm?

    Tree Planting

Do you guys have oak wilt down there? Are the hybrids such as Burr X resistant by chance?
