Opening week

Maybe I am imagining it, but it seems like every year some of you have connected on bucks you had patterned during opening week.

The heat and bugs must have really impacted things. . . . . Seems slow on here

Slow!!! Too hot!!!!! Weird year without an explanation. But…. 3 months of season yet!!!!

I'm surprised I haven't been reading any stories about bucks hitting the ground these past couple of days. The rains haven't been too hard and have really cooled down the temps here in Central IA. I'll try to hunt a bit this weekend.

I thought yesterday evening was going to be really good. 15 degree drop. Rained most of the day. Saw 2 does. Deer moved after dark according to cams. Not sure what to say. Conditions were some of my favorite that exist.

Going to try Friday I think.

This is the least I have hunted in October in forever. Conditions for the most part have just not been good.

Yet to climb a tree this year. I had thought of trying to sneak out yesterday afternoon, but it POURED rain late in the afternoon/eve. Windshield wipers couldn't keep up on the drive. We got 2" yesterday. Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy. That, or maybe Friday. Wind forecasted for the weekend is not ideal for where I want to go, so not going in on a bad wind. Got another place I could go this weekend, but cameras have been less than impressive there this year. It would probably be going just for the sake of getting out there. Maybe continue on with the chore list.

I tried going out last night. Went with the expectations of seeing zero deer and to my surprise I saw 4. This guy was the first deer out. Closest he got was 70 yards though. Might go out again Friday.

Cameras starting to heat up and had first mature daylight walker this morning around 9am. This weekend should be pretty good as temps continue to cool a bit.

There is a severe ammunition shortage this year- this could be coming into play this year.

I have deer hunted in Iowa for 53 years and bowhunted for 51. I have done special city, park, and installation bow hunts for years as well as hunt some of the best Southern Iowa deer ground there is. I have been an IBA member for years and know or have known hundreds of the best and dedicated bowhunters in this state. None, zero, nada of them shoot a giant buck with a bow in Iowa every year- it is not that easy. I have said before that I have seen and heard it all. The few I have known that kill a giant with a "bow" every year usually have one of three things or a combination of these three in common. Baiting, illegal weapon- crossbow or gun, or hunting past legal hours.

Blah, blah, blah. Do you do anything other than stroke your own ego and attempt to stir the pot, for no good reason? Why don't you just go away DM54. For the most part, the members on this IW site are high-quality, stand-up sportsmen, and I personally enjoy reading their stuff an conversing with them. For the most part...

Some of it could be just less people posting about them too. . . . I don't know, it just seemed like there were always a few decent ones shot by now. Good luck guys

Hands down been the worst year for me from the camera perspective. Lush, green plots getting hit 1 in 3 days. No EHD that I’m aware of. Hardly any mature deer on cameras. Hardly any buck sign; scrapes, rubs, etc. I know the acorn crop is a bumper one, but when a corn field gets cut and nothings in it, something doesn’t make sense.

Some people do this litterally on TV for all to see so I guess I have to disagree.

How do you know so much ?? If you’ve been archery hunting for 51 years you should be killing a big buck every year with all that knowledge and experience!!
