BDAHMS hunt log

BDAHMS

Be here Now
Its about that time as I started with food plots and shooting my new bow- figured I would start my hunting log on here so there isnt thread after thread from all my events.

shooting my bow for a few weeks with no peep so I can relax the string and help prevent the peep from moving- shot in 20 or so times off the deck at lunch today. I am in love with my Halon- it is crazy fast and so much quieter than any bow I have had in the past

Last weekend I cut and sprayed the plots- here are a few before and after pics of just the cutting- myself and some friends are going to disk and plant this weekend -- I have 4 different plots across 3 properties this season, pretty excited!

and finally- not sure if any of you remember- but I had a buck i was passing I named "High and Tight" a couple seasons ago- and I wanted to go after him last year- well I found out why I never saw him- the neighbor had his skull up on a post Not a giant- but certainly could have been!!

Wish I coulda been there to help. It's a lot of work, thats for sure! You should buy a tiller attachment for Rex's skidloader.. ;)

Great thread idea.
I believe I saw a trophy bucks of Iowa on Instagram, is that your page as well?

Bill- I will certainly have the "right" equipment for next year:) especially if I keep increasing the number of plots. Sask- yes that is us as well on instagram

Had an extremely busy weekend. Went down south and moved / hung a few more stands. Even combined 2 ladder stands and now have a 27'ish ladder stand. It's up there! But very sturdy:). Also moved a few stands at another property and hung a few more cameras. Went and planted a food plot for the first time at a good property I have hunted in the past. I wasn't high on this place because I have had ZERO bucks on 4 different cameras here so far- but I moved a camera back to an old spot I used to have one and BAM- two nice bucks on camera daily. And they have to walk between two of my other cams to get to this one. Goes to show you- you can have an idea what's around- but you never truly know. I'll post their pics in my trail camera thread tomorrow but one is a nice 10 that looks to be a future 6X6 I'm beat!! And go cubs go :)

Good work, and definitely up there for a ladder stand. Did you use both braces? I can't see in the pic very well. Guess you could use the seat of the other one in a cedar or behind some brush somewhere, or is that going to be for when you don't want to be up so high in the other one? :D

I used both braces on this one- it is really sturdy for how high up it is. And the short one is whats left of the other stand we used to make this one taller:)

went to one of my food plots yesterday to spray for new grass growth - and was happy to see it has already started to come to life

had a great opening day Dove season with some friends. I could only hunt until mid day because I had to pack up and hit the road for my lake vermillion trip- but the 4 of us limited out in 45 minutes or so.
Fun morning of shooting and I took up my birds on the fishing trip and wrapped them in bacon with a sliver of jalapeno- huge hit with all the guys at fishing camp

Felt great to get back into the stand- was hit with an unimaginable tragedy at work a little over a week and a half ago and wasnt sure if I would have any time to really hunt over the next month- not that I really cared if I got out as priorities have shifted a bit- but I was able to get out last night for a sit and although I didnt let any arrows fly- sure felt good to be 20' up and clear the mind

^looking good. Those brassicas are the best rototiller I have ever seen. That ground will be like butter in the spring.

What did you do to the ground, just spray and broadcast?

I mowed the weeds/ grass as short as I could. Sprayed with round up. Let it sit for a few weeks and hit it once more. And about 2 weeks after my last spray I broadcasted the seed. That is all

And pray for the rains we had this year. :D

It had been a great year for moisture to say the least. But this spot has been missed by a lot of the rainfalls. I think the dead grass really helped hold moisture My plots down south are horrible right now and I tilled and added nitrogen and had way more Rain.

Yes, they dead grass on top definitely helps moisture. Those are great looking plots.

A helpful hint for next time...you could do the 2nd spray of roundup the same day you broadcast your seeds. I do it every time. This just may save you an extra trip in the essence of time. Good luck this season and thanks for updating!
