I had these two rod holders, and they just didn't impress me as far as fitting in my sled good, or using them in my shelter. I took a pair of bolt cutters and cut off the bases to each. Then I drilled a hole in each corner of the handle on the box. Now, if a bite is detected, the pole can be lifted in one quick motion and the reel can be used and functions excellent with the rod holder still on it. Maybe you guys are already doing this, but thought I would share.
Also, I thought I would let anyone in need of a nice case to protect their rods, you can use an arrow box for archery. This works great and keeps my poles in good shape, and also holds these two rod holders. I just have to fold my rod handles in for transport.
