I have a food plot all ready to go and have a drill handy now. If I plant winter annual rye now will it mature in August? I was then gonna just mow and and let it reseed but was curious if it would grow a mature head.
Should be ready before Aug. Usually the rye we plant in the fall and plow under when we seed alfalfa heads out in early July. Tough stuff generally, even if we dig it at 4" a lot comes back. Most of the time any cover crop we use if planted mid April to early may heads out early July.
very good. I was going to put the food plot to rye in the fall but i'll just plant it now and have it control all the weeds this year and mow it late august and let it reseed itself.
I don't think spring planted rye will head out in august or at all this summer/fall. It would be much better to put it in oats and clover now, then winter rye late august.
