Rut report 2020

This is some strange chit happening in NW MN.
??

I have not seen even a young buck chasing a doe and by this time, year in/year out the youngsters are balls too walls by now.?
I usually have a handle on whats going on here but this year I'm baffled.

I got a late start this am and got set up around 9:30. At 11:00 am I heard snorting, grunting and over the hill came a doe with a good mature 9 pt followed by 5 more bucks! Three were behind on the chase and they were all over me trying to get back on the trail.
Ten minutes later they came back and picked up another real good buck and all were under 20 yards but I had to just watch them go by. Sat till dark and only seen a dink after the chase.

Evening sit in SE IA by some heavy hit scrapes. Nothing rattling but squirrels in the leaves.

UPDATE: had 2 future booners hang out with me for the last 20 minutes of the night. I left an empty bottle of “2 hot does” 20 yds out under a scent wick that they decided they liked. Kept hoping A shooter would come chase them off, but it was just us tonight.
Also, if anyone lost their house cat in Muscatine county, it’s on my trail cam.

Saw 6 bucks & 1 doe getting chased this morning. Doe got a free sled ride home. Two of the bucks were big 4 or 5 plus yr old deer. Deer were still moving when I dragged her out.

On my way home @ 11 am, I saw a 150ish 8pt trailing a doe in a neighborhood backyard right past the the kids slide! No timber of any kind for 3 or 4 blocks.

Heard from two different gents this morning...one had lots of action and heavy chasing...the other had next to nothing. They would have been about 2 miles apart. A tale of two timbers I guess. :)

Outside Iowa City last night I called in 2 8 point bucks. One old surly guy and the other a young one with a great frame. They walked by each other with hair raised but no action. Later a doe was feeding by herself. That's all I saw all day. There was way more action the last time I went out 5 days earlier.

Tonight I saw one mature buck chasing, mouth wide open, drool rolling out, breathing heavy, working a scrape about 50 yards from my house. Watched another mature buck walk into the standing beans like he owned the place, acted cool, calm, collected, barely even noticing the does in the field. He just worked himself to the other side all the while feeding until out of view.

This cold weather coming, is going to blow it up.
