Single most important ingredient in a food plot?

I broadcasted brassicas on July 25 due to rain in the forcast. Got 1/2" that night and have managed about 2/10ths since. They are toast. Put rye, radishes and red clover into powder last weekend. Not looking good for that either. Been a tough late summer for the food plot plans for sure.

I have been very fortunate...was in a drought most of the summer but caught some timely rains in August. A little bit of rain mixed with pretty decent soil makes for a good plot

We knocked down almost 2" in Adams County, IL last night. Most significant rain I've had by far for close to 2 months. Looks to be dry and hot again soon but I'll sure take what we got.

How many of you guys have done an interseed via frost with clover? I have stand we did in August and we got lucky with a few rains but it's not great at the moment. It is a bit spotty. I thought I had heard that interseeding clover can be a hit or miss but never done it myself...

I have 3 very small (just big enough to encourage the travel route) brassica patches and got them in late, around August 20th. Caught a few nice rains and they came in great. Deer have been absolutely hammering them, almost too much. Went to hunt over one of them this morning and as it got light out the plot looked like it had really been worked over. I pulled cam card after plugging a doe and quickly figured out what happened. These 2 clowns were going at it non stop for 28 minutes! Tore it all up. Here's a couple of the clearer pics.

Comon' kids! Do you have to rough house in the kitchen?!
