Smokeless ML Project

i've been thinking about going the "cheap" route, and having him convert a 45-70 cva single shot over to a smokeless muzzleloader.

anybody here pulled the trigger on that one?

I've done it. walked out of the store paying $300 sent the barrel to get converted for around $200. roughly 500 you have an awesome new toy.

I just heard about being able to do this, hopefully someone here has experience with the cva. I have a cva accurra v2 that I really like but would go the smokeless route for sure for that money!

The Scout or Hunter in 45/70 are very accurate guns out to 300 yards.
I have a Scout, and a friend has one also, nice light weight carry gun, great for tree stands or blinds, the weight on the Scout loaded with Scope is just over 8 lbs,
Have been using IMR 4198 powder 60 gr with the 270 E MAX parker bullet, or 61 gr with the 275 X bullets that Luke sells or the 275 gr Fury bullets, have been using the module setup that Luke sells, have been getting 2580 fps for speed.
If you live close to Sioux City Ia, PM me and you could try it out, or for more info.

Some might find this interesting. Here are ballistics on bolt gun. Input speed is legit off chronograph. That's the load I finally settled on. 96 grains H4895

NICE. Out my bolt gun I was using IMR 3031, was needing to raise the charge from 89 gr during summer to 92.5 for winter to maintain 2800 fps using the 310 asg bullet.
I switched to Luke's 335 asg bullet with change in powder to IMR 8208 XBR, charge was 88.5 gr of powder, shot it in Oct. avg 2865 fps 5 shot group. 2 weeks ago checked it again, 2860, 2859, 2860 fps.

That's a lot better consistency. I will have to keep an eye on what temps do to me on 4895. Good reminder.

You must be talkkng about 4895 rather than 4898. I am still using h4198 but would like to try h4895 for it’s temp insinsitivity. Are you using a brake with that load?

Reading the posts here get me excited I'm in the process of having my Remington ultimate converted to smokless and can't wait to get her out and shoot it.
