NEW DEER HUNTING REGULATIONS FINALIZED
DES MOINES - The final review of Iowa's deer seasons came Tuesday
afternoon by the state rules review committee. Hunters will notice a
new special antlerless November hunt and that center-fire rifles will be
allowed during the extended January antlerless season in the southern
two tiers of counties.
The new deer season, along with most other hunting and trapping
regulations and instructions will be available in early September that
highlights all the changes for 2005 hunting seasons. The 2005-06 Iowa
Hunting and Trapping Regulations booklet has the deer and fall turkey
instructions, upland game seasons and bag limits, general hunting
regulations and even the 2006 spring turkey instructions.
Terry Little, with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources wildlife
bureau, said with all changes for 2005, the DNR had to wait for final
review before printing the regulations.
"Anytime you have a change there are going to be some people who like
it and some who don't, but we feel by combining the four publications
we can serve our hunters better," Little said.
The regulations are currently available on the Internet at
www.iowadnr.com, on the fish and game law enforcement, and wildlife
links. Printed copies will be available at license vendors and DNR
offices statewide in early September.
