Day 1. Just went out for evening. Pile of walleye and I caught this on a walleye rig.
We will be out for musky, small mouth, perch, etc. Musky was a surprise start on light tackle.
Just over the Canadian border. Week of fun coming up…. Just the start!!!!

Out for day stuck in er after cut tendon with knife. Oh well. Back at it. Didn’t try for muskies yet. I actually love catching big catfish.

I almost never take vacations!!! Work is my vacation. ;). But- with kids - making memories for them & spending time with fam outdoors sure is great. & delicious!!

Great day! I caught one musky. Was 48” & 24 lbs. Just fun to catch one. A little smaller than the one the first night. Had a blast on smallmouth- kids loved it!!! Lots of fun!!!

Very nice catches you guys got! How many casts to catch a musky, they say it takes a 1,000 cast if you're lucky enough to catch one LOL...

That’s the crazy part…. We had maybe 6-7 on. A couple got off. We didn’t fish hard for them. I would call it “fish of 500 casts” in right areas done with some strategy. A few fish a day is very doable in good areas.
Think the most my buddies here have ever caught was like 20-25-ish? On overfished lakes with gazillion people- ya, has to be really tough.
These big smallmouth are just fun!!! 5 lbs is on the bigger end. Just a blast.
I just like the variety of musky to perch to giant catfish to walleyes, etc etc. Might be few more years til I go again.
Enjoy these last days of summer!

Awesome fish for sure. I love to musky fish but would take 4-5lb smallmouth all day over a musky!!! Those are some awesome fish and fight. Thanks for sharing, looks like a great trip and some happy boys!!!

FYI...if you are eager to catch numbers of 4-6+ pound smallies...consider a trip to Lake Mille Lacs in Minnysoda. I did it last spring and in what was far from ideal fishing conditions I still caught about 15 smallies over 4 pounds in two days.

Id love to look into that !!!! This trip was a long drive!!! That trip be less than half the drive!! I “like fishing” but one trip a year is great!!!
Other thing I’d love to find…. Place where u could catch bigger pike in good #. Rather catch dozen 35-42” pike vs a Muskie. I’ve done 2 fishing trips in 5 years now. Like to find a place that’s lacking for people a bit more ;).
Suppose I’m saying 2 things: less people & closer drive. So- pry be 2 trips. Someday I wanna fly in to a lake where it’s big old pike, etc & no people.
I’m so ready for hunting season.

Want big pike head to Saskatchewan. Went once with a group mainly from Colorado and haven't experienced anything quite like it again. Big pike all over. Think the biggest was 46 or 48 and the number over 40 caught was something nuts. Also caught more walleye than any other place I've ever been
