Favorite wildlife artist

I like any artist who is able to "move" me, or better put, make me feel something. If I look at a painting and go "Oh wow", the artist acomplished their goal.

To answer the question in the context I out lined above, Zack, Redlin and....... damn, I can't remember the name but he did alot of water fowl stuff. You could feel the weather, smell the feathers and hear the wing beats.

Michael Sieve is a awesome painter for that reason.
Always makes you looking for that hunter or that empty treestand.

I definately like Zach, not a big fan of Redlin, how many sunsets on a cabin on a lake with cartoon looking deer watching a barn dance prints can a guy crank out? All of his prints look the same from 20 feet. But he has built a hell of a following so who am I to say? A couple that you guys might not know of that are really awesome are Cole Johnson (google Cole Johnson Art, you will see pencil drawings that are more realistic and more moving than black and white photos) Guy Coheleach ( www.guysart.com) and Robert Bateman ( who is the king of ultra-realistic tightly rendered emotion invoking paintings). Although I am pretty sure Bateman is anti-hunting and kind of an environmental liberal supporter, he is tremendously talented. Just my input, I kind of like Bob Kuhn's style too. It is a good thing I don't have more wall space because I would go broke on prints alone!
 
Actually like IW's very own Larry Zach and IABruce's pencil sketches, Kat is very talented as well...Des McCaffrey, Dan Ranshau, and Robert Abbott. I like all kinds.
 
Yea, Cynthie Fischer does a pretty good whitetail. A name that I'm suprised hasn't been mentioned yet is Haydon Lamson, always been a favorite of mine. Leon Parsons does a real fine looking whitetail also. One of the Wensels books has a pencil drawing of a whitetail done by Dave Wade, in my opinion one of the greatest whitetail deer drawings ever produced.
 
These are my favorite prints and artists from the top down for deer.
Larry Zach, (big country bucks, Broken solitude, Old rivals series).

Desmond Mccaffrey, (Moment of truth, kill zone series) I love these prints because they really appeal to the bowhunter in me. Morbid but I kind of like that....not all life is Terry Redlin print.

My all time favorite is Robert Bateman. His realism is second to none. (wish I could afford one of his prints) My other favorites would be Bev Doolittle, the Hautman Brothers (mainly waterfowl), Terry Isaac, and of course Old Buck. Maynard Reece is a favorite waterfowl artist too.
 
Hummm...well there is Larry Zach, and Larry Zach and Larry Zach...ya, those would be my favorite three.

Larry Zach,about anything he has.Terry Redlin and Maynard Reece for waterfowl.Maynards son is a doctor and does a good job on waterfowl also.I lost a dozen Zach prints in our fire this fall,along with several Redlin and Reece prints.I was just as pi$$ed at losing those as I was two deer mounts and several turkey fans.Hard to replace when alot were matching serial #'s,but have talked to Larry about getting them replaced.Insurance paid out on them,but everybody needs to make sure if they have prints and mounts that there insurance will cover them or if they will need a rider.
 
My idol has always been Micheal Sieve. I am a big fan of Hayden Lambson and if you haven't seen his son's stuff yet... he is going to be great. Of course Larry Zach, Dave Wade, Scot Storm, Greg Beecham, James Meger, and my local favorite is John Green - he taught me everything I know, he can paint a pheasant hunting scene like nobody else!

Not a fan of people who cannot come up with their own style and have to do Redlin knock-offs in order to sell.

Michael Sieve and Larry Zach.
Sieve does one of the most realistic turkey heads by far. "Blindsided and If Looks Could Kill" were awesome.
I like Sieve's "Chipshot" also. I actually own two of them.

Bwhntr4life I have a couple of Sieve's "Church of the Great Outdoors" in the classifieds to get rid of.

Larry Zach does an awesome deer. I agree
Dream Bucks is awesome.

Larry's da' man! Alot of his paintings portray "real" whitetails that have a story or history behind them. Lambson also catches my eye. I will own his new "Feeding in the thistles" print soon. The lighting and detail makes it hard to tell it from a photograph.
