Does anyone know if deer taken to the lockers listed on the DNR site that are participating in the HUSH program take ONLY de-boned deer?
 
I'm not sure about the others, but the locker I took mine too last year, i just dropped off the whole deer. that was at ridgeport locker, north of boone. If I were you and had a locker in mind, I would look them up in the phone book and ask them, they will let you know if it has to be boned out or not.

I know the Granger locker is in the HUSH program.I would give them a call.I think they take the whole deer.
 
It's my understanding they got rid of the ones who required it to be deboned. They must take the whole deer now to participate.

I just looked at the DNR website re: the HUSH program.

I must say that I was somewhat disappointed that there are so few lockers in the state participating.

There appears to be a major shortage of lockers willing to participate in the program located in the north, east, west, and southwest areas of the state. Hunters residing in one of these geographic locations should plan on traveling a considerable distance to donate your deer meat.

I called the nearest locker which is located in Adams County as I didn’t see their name on the list this year. They explained that they had participated last year, but they only accepted de-boned venison due to the possibility of CWD. They stated that unfortunately they are not participating in the program this year because of the DNR restrictions. The gentleman I talked with would not go into further detail.

In my opinion, it’s unfortunate that more lockers aren’t participating in this worthy program. Does anyone have any ideas for next year as to how iowawhitetail member’s may be able to help the Iowa DNR and meat processing/lockers work together and get more participation in the HUSH program?
 
Blake - We had a gentleman at our IBA meeting a year and a half ago. What he told us is that they did in fact contact every locker asking them to participate in the hush program. I believe the cost per deer is $55.00 to the locker and $5 to the hush /food bank of Iowa for administrative fees. This is all being donated by The IBA, State Farm, hunters when they get their tags, etc.. Too many to name. Anyway it is the lockers choice wether to take the deer or not, and how they wanted it. I know the first year some would only take it the way they wanted it. I have not heard info on this years program yet. As far as I.W.ers helping out, I would say either call the DNR and ask them, or get ahold of your local IBA rep or board member. Sorry to ramble
 
i take all my deer to ridge port meat locker... north of boone.. i just cut out the back straps and leave them skinned and they take it all for like a 60 dollar deboneing charge...
 
I took a doe that I shot Saturday into the Granger locker Monday morning. I had mine skinned out and in a game bag. (I had it hanging in an air conditioned garage over the weekend). They took it but they told me they preferred the deer just field dressed with the skin still on. If you have to store it a couple days they just want you to throw 1 or 2 bags of ice into the body cavity. This was early monday and they already had 4 others which people delivered Monday morning laying on the floor with skin still on.

Here's a list from the IADNR site, these are the lockers participating for the 2004-2005 season. Pretty bumbed out to see there's nothing around Cedar Rapids.
