Spraying cedars in CRP?

Is there something that I can use to spray a bunch of red cedars in a crp field that will kill them?

When would be the best time?

I can't get to these very easy w/ a mower so I was going to put the back pack on and spray if i could.

i'm not sure if tordon will kill on contact. we us tordon on stumps after we cut tress, so they don't grow back. could be worth looking into

If you cover them with Tordon and Round-up mix, they should die, cover them! (tordon can kill when it's in the soil, it's powerful stuff!)

I would spray them in the spring when they are putting out new growth.

Never tried spraying them, so let us now how that works out. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Tordon 22K will work on smaller cedars in the spring, and is labeled for CRP as it will take out broadleaves and not hurt the grass. If the cedars are about chest high, not much going to kill them besides a chainsaw and Tordon RTU. You can spike it with a little 24D and you will have a grazon mix, which will kill cedars, maily smaller ones.

How about a prescribed burn? Save some money on chemicals and it will also help out your grasses in the CRP. If the cedars are larger than say 4 ft. just cut them with a chainsaw and no need to treat with chemicals as cedars don't resprout.

I have sprayed for a utility and have had good kill on red cedars with Escort in our mix. I think it is labeled for private use as they list CRP as one of its uses. Very friendly to grasses.
