Page 24 of the 09-10 hunting and trapping regs... Total crap if you ask me...

LEGAL METHOD OF TAKE
Archery: Longbows, recurve bows, and
compound bows shooting broadhead arrows are
permitted. No explosive or chemical devices may
be attached to the arrow or broadhead. There are
no minimum draw weights for bows or minimum
diameter for broadheads. Arrows must be at least
18 inches long. Draw locks on compound bows are
legal.

Probably not the Randy you were asking but I heard that this stipulation is new this year.

Probably just setting the stage for crossbows.......

I know Ill take crap for this but, I dont condone crossbow hunting or drawlocks but this sport that we all love needs as many people out there as we can get to voice their opinion in a positive way. As Michael Waddell sais " its all about the brotherhood"!!!!!! as long as people are ethical, let em us what they want...
 
Why wasn't this included on page 3 of the 2009-2010 hunting and trapping regs under the 'Changes to the 2009-2010 Hunting Regulations'???
 
I think it was legal last year as well.. Most people who are going to use a draw lock are going to be young kids or people with a disability that will not be able draw a bow without the assistance. Of course you will get some guys that will exploit the law, like any law. So I don't really see why its total crap? Its just a way of getting more people into the woods. If I had a shoulder injury and couldn't draw my bow, I would figure out a way to be out there.. Draw lock, crossbow, high powered rifle :D, whatever. Thank god for good health.

As for arrows being 18 inches long, that law has been there for a long while DWILK. Good thing you have never been checked by a conservation officer DWILK. In order to comply with this law DWILK I think you should buy a draw lock so you can make your draw length long enough for legal arrows. That way your t-rex like arms can just pull the trigger so that your 14 inch arrows flying out of that HoytJr bow you shoot will not get you in trouble.

Yeah after a little research I discovered that it was stated exactly the same in the 2008-2009 booklet but the 2007-2008 booklet made no mention of draw locks....Now I'm not necessarily against draw locks or crossbows but legally how are they differentiated?

One shoots horizontal and one shoots vertical. :grin:
 
The part that just wrecked my season is the "explosive" or "chemical" tips, I'll admit- I've been using C-4 tips as well as Cyanide with extreme success. I felt like Rambo with my bow- thanks for ruining my upcoming season with those limitations!

I remember hearing my dad talking about how he heard they used to use poison arrows down south quite a bit back in the day. Guess you could hit them anywhere then but I wouldn't want to eat the meat.
 
That's a new one. We fought hard to keep them illegal several years ago. I hadn't heard no word about a change.

I am looking at the Iowa DNR 2008-2009 Iowa Hunting & Trapping 2008 Deer, Fall Turkey, Upland Hunting and 2009 Spring Turkey Regulations.

On page 23 it states " Draw locks on compound bows are legal". It looks like this has been legal for at least a year.
