Ryans first deer

death from above
I'm a little late on this post, but figured I would share with you guys. This is Ryan who comes from a single parent home and none of his family hunts. My girlfriends father works with his mom and she was telling him that her son really has an interest in hunting but no one in their family hunts. So long story short Jim volunteered to take Ryan out during youth season on his farm. Jim doesn't really deer hunt anymore and didn't have any gear or a gun that was suitable for a 12 year old kid. I volunteered to help out and offered to set Ryan up. I have a 2 acre bean field that butts up to a 1 acre clover plot and the deer have been thick there all summer. I took Ryan out and let him shoot one of my muzzleloaders. I have a small CVA that only holds 100 grains of powder and the recoil is very light. I knew he would be able to handle it with ease and after 3 shots in the bullseye at 75 yards I knew he was ready. Next I took him up to the food plot and we set a ground blind. I wanted him to help with the whole process so he sees that there is more to hunting than just going out and shooting something. He helped with the blind, pulled a card on one of my cams and drove my rzr around the farm for awhile. He never stopped smiling the whole afternoon and told me before he went home that "i won't be able to sleep for the next couple of nights" :)

Fast forward to Thursday night. I was at a rehearsal dinner for my buddys wedding and Jim offers to go sit in the blind with Ryan. The weather and wind were perfect and I knew it shouldn't take them long to see something. At about 5:45 I get a text from Jim that says "doe down". I talked to Jim later that night and he said Ryan was absolutely pumped and couldn't stop grinning. This is his first deer and I'm guessing won't be his last. I can honestly say that this was as cool of a experience for me as it was him. It is very refreshing to see the excitement and attitude of a kid that is new to this sport. I think I may have a new hunting buddy, as he's already talking about Turkey season

Thanks to Jim for the use of his farm and Congrats to Ryan, I think the pictures really tell the story! Thanks for reading.

That is great story. Anytime you can spread the hunting bug is great. Congrats to Ryan on his first deer and way to be a good role model Jim and dedgeez.

How cool is that! :)

Nice of you guy's to step up and help that young man out. There are many like him out there who would like to hunt but have no one to show them the ropes.

Congrats on your first deer Ryan, I hope you get many more of them! :way:

Good job dg. A young man that age is really influenced by a role model and you being one is good practice for when you have kids of your own.:D:way:
