teenage poachers...."thrill killers"

And the tags pay for State Parks, wildlife habitat, and the freaking bike trails.

Money from deer tags do not pay for state parks or bike trails, it stays in the fish and wildlife trust fund. State parks is funded through general fund appropriations and fees from campers.
Bike trails are funded through Reap, state appropriations, funds raising from the community and other ways but not from hunting and fishing fees.

Doneright, government didn't tell me, I looked it up. If you are interested I would be happy to point you in the right direction where you can see where the money originates. Have a great day!

This BULL!!!!! They should have been charged WAY WAY WAY more than that! What will this show now to the other kids? I can get away with poaching lots of Deer with a $600 fine and a slap on this wrist. Wow...

The kids should have to sit the game out. Most schools have a policy if you get caught drinking or some other crime they have to sit out for events. These kids have multiple infractions, they should definitely sit and watch. The parents should really take it out of the hands of the school and punish "in house" so the kids learn a thing or two.

A friend of mine a few weeks ago was out hunting in the section behind his house. He seen a mature 11 that he was after and had pics of. well the deer works his away from him and goes over the hill along a fence line. bout 15 mins pass and he hears 2 shotgun blasts from that direction. He gets curious and goes over to investigate . he sees two teenage boys, one with bow and one with a shotgun. he confronted them about the shots and their response was that the kid w/bow said he shot at deer and spooked the buck which kicked up some pheasants which the other shot at with the shotgun. well my friend walked back to his house for a bit then walked out there after the kids left. He found the buck that had been shot with a slug. called the DNR and they set up and waited for them to come get it after dark. they caught them red handed pulling out of the field in a truck. these are two 14yr old mind you! they were fined each 2000 dollars and confuscated the gun and bow. not sure about the truck. bet their parents were'nt to happy!

Good job on your friends actions! The kids don't always feel the necessary heat from something like that cause the parents bail them out. Nice to know the parents may impose own discipline.

This stuff upsets me a lot because we have kids running around our high school braggin' about the HUGE Buck they shot with a rifle. When I come up with these little Bucks they laugh I say "It's meat, it's dead, it's mine, it's legal" they just say why don't I use a rifle and shoot a real Deer.

EDIT:

My parents would kill me and say I'd have to buy them a new shotgun, and the entire bill. No hangin' out with anyone again or going hunting.

Please pm your findings, I will take them under consideration. However you will not disuade me from the fact that dnr funding gets raided for things that it should have nothing to do with.

The fish and game trust fund is just that, a trust fund. It has very narrow limits on what it can be used for.

http://www.iowadnr.gov/Portals/idnr/uploads/files/legacy_factsheet.pdf

The rest of the dnr, including forestry and parks, are funded through the general fund. Of course that gets raided for everything else. The entire ag and natural resources portion of the general fund is less than 1%.

Maybe you should consider getting a little more educated on the topics you are going to spout off about on here, and contact your legislators and attempt to do some good by presenting a factual and coherent argument.

Would have been same for me growing up too. Except my dad would have added a size 13 field goal kick in the pants to my punishment. Same will go for my kids if they decide to do it.

Are you a hunter, hypocrite or just like to glorify yourself. Why haven't you put the dnr on them? Can't wait to hear this one................ck

Word is these kids didnt play in their game today (8 man) and they lost 81-0.

Go Fremont Mills!

What do you want me to do? Say "Well, I think some kids are poaching because they told me". Coming from a kid that will never fly, just sayin'. Plus, you can't pick out the liars from the kids who tell the truth. Some kid the other day said he was going to shoot Bucks with a high power (he's never gone hunting and doesn't have tags) and he's going to bring his BB gun and shoot Deer. Hmmm, I wonder...is that the truth? I'm not a hypocrite and would never poach thank you.

If it would help bring a parent with. I think you would feel good about what you are doing for the hunting community in your area. If these kids are lying or not it still might be worth bringing the attention of the GW but it is up to you. Good luck with the decision.

speaking of poachers my brothers girlfriend was in her hunters safety class yesterday and the CO brought in an absolute giant that was poached friday night with a spot light and rifle.

Just getting to this thread.. Are those fines reduced because they are minor's? I'd have to think if adults were doing that the fines would be way higher.. That's just crazy.. No way these should ever be referred to as hunters..

These fines are ridiculous. I say throw the book at them. I hear of guys doing that around my area and it really pisses me off. I put in all the time effort and money to maybe get a nice deer and this type of stuff just really makes me sick.
