Fun Friday Morning

Late Friday morning found me spending some time with my son as we sat waiting for the Union Pacific's #844 steam locomotive to come by. My sons work hours prevent us from getting together as much as we used to but we enjoyed drinking coffee and sharing stories while we waited.
About 5 minutes behind schedule, we heard the unmistakable sound of that steam whistle as she steamed into view. It was fun watching what has become known as the "Living Legend" roll past us on it's way east, then on to Kansas City and other southern destinations.

As a side note, to give an idea of how big this thing is, the driver wheels are 80 inches in diameter!!!

Here's a little info about it and this trip.......

And a short video of #844 as it steamed past us.

Awesome Friday morning, Jay! I'd give anything to have a cup of coffee and sharing stories with my dad again!

Thats great Jay! The UP seems to bring one through Iowa every few years, and are great to see. My oldest son is 17 and I have a picture of us standing next to one of the drive wheels when he was around 2 or three years old when they stopped for the day at the UP yard in Des Moines. He is crying in the picture because he was so scared by all the noises the old engine made while ideling.
