You found it 45 yards away from where you shot it? Sorry Jr., that story doesn't add up. I recall you saying you diligently searched for a few days...I hope I misinterpreted your statement and you "shot him at 45 yards away". Nice buck regardless.
 
I shot him at 15 yards away, it was in a corn field and they took the corn out. He was dead underneath some corn and his head got caught up the combine shut it down. From what the farmer told me, he found it about 45 yards away. Although, I picked it up 100 yards away from where I shot him (probably was dragged a little ways when it got stuck in the combine). I walked 100 yards in that corn row by row in a circle. I must have just missed him. I've spent probably 30+ hours looking for him total.

Edit: that's why his brow is knocked off.

No, it was 15 look back at the post. I missed him at 45 though. Shot right over his back, that's where you might be confused. I've been searching since September actually.

Not attacking you TH, just wanted more context on the 45 yard deal. Congrats, glad you found him and it will make a great Euro mount.
 
Nice buck and glad you got him. Sucks that's the way it turned out with not finding him earlier, but as everyone said in the original post, he was a dead deer. At least you have closure now.
 
When you called the CO from the Iowa DNR, did you just tell him that you found a dead buck and him ask for a salvage tag?
Or did you tell the CO from the Iowa DNR that you had previously shot this particular buck and that it died from you shooting it.
Did the CO tell you he would give you a salvage tag after you told him that you found a buck that you had shot previously?
I'm surprised the CO didn't tell you to use one of your buck tags on this particular buck, that you shot and killed.

Agreed, if you still have a tag, you should use it on this one..

What is different now than when you were gonna put your tag on him before? Don't you have two youth tags?

X2- Yeah don't understand the salvage tag here. You killed it? Put your tag on it. Rediculous to even consider a salvage tag
