Video Camera over Gut Pile

Has anyone done this? I put one out with video -amazing what you'll capture. In one frame I had a bobcat, skunk, opossum and raccoon all positioning around the pile.

Bobcats came in every night and would sneak in like they were going to pounce on it. Also had hawks, foxes, deer and of course Yotes. The surprising thing about it was that skunks were the dominant species. They ran everything off.

I'll put some on YouTube and share the links. Unless someone knows of a better way to share videos on here?

I put a trail camera over a deer that I found dead a few years ago. Got one yote picture, a few with red tails hawks & eagles discussing seniority and a bizzilion pictures of crows. Got tired of all the crows so moved the camera.

Here you go, some of the highlights. They are only 10 second clips but some cool stuff was captured. I literally had over 1,200 videos over three weeks.

Exactly my experience as well.

What animal in it's right mind messes with a skunk?

My buddy found out one night! Called and told me he was watching an owl smashing one into the gravel road. Said it was so smelly but put up with it to watch. Had to be quite the battle, but the owl won the fight!

Ok, owls probably aren't known for their sense of smell. :D

Actually, a study in Missouri quite a few year ago on coyotes by testing their stomach content (wanting to see amount of fawns and turkeys they were consuming) showed that skunk was present in a very high percentage of them. I was surprised.

You and me both. Tough times call for drastic measures in the canine world maybe.

On a similar vein, it has always made me wonder why my dogs, with a highly acute sense of smell, seemed drawn to roll in the most foul smelling things they could find. At least they weren't eating it, I guess. :D

Your's don't eat it???? How do you train for that??? Mine like to eat & "ralph" it back up either on the carpet or bedspread. Don't understand the aversion to puking on the tile????

I have placed trail cams over gut piles, even recently. I have often set the cam to 10 second video mode too. Some really interesting things show up...the neighbor's dog, hawks, crows of course, eagles sometimes, the neighbor's dog, bobcat, raccoon, possums, coyotes, you name it. Of did I mention the neighbor's dog?
