Landowners should get 1 tag and everyone else should be in a lottery!

There was a time when you had to own land in order to be able to vote. I think our fore fathers were much smarter than us......

I read it as you get one statewide tag and one landowner tag good only on your ground.
 
The best thing for the herd would be to allow residents to buy one antlered tag and landowners still get there free landowner tag. Then Landowners can shoot two bucks and non-land owning residents can shoot one buck.....

It fair for the landowner to be able to shoot two bucks since they have made the investimate....

Also, keep doe tags limited to same amount as buck tags.

Now that would make Iowa's hunting better in the future!!!

I did say we all take things for granted not just landowners.If being able to hunt whenever you want is the reason then why does it have to be an anysex tag instead of just antlerless tags.Can't u hunt antlerless deer whenever U want too?In other words it always comes down too being able to hunt a buck whenever u want to not just hunt in general.Just saying they need to give out less tags period including landowner tags regardless.

This is my experience and opinion as well. I know dozens of landowners and the only one I can think of that has taken 3 bucks off his property in a year owns 1000 acres and runs a semi-live deer hunting website. :D To the best of my recollection...I don't think I have ever even taken 2 bucks in a year off my place and I am sure I have never taken 3. I am probably only about 50% in even taking ONE buck per year off of my place.

Take the 3rd tag away, I could really care less...except that if that is a measure that people think is going to help our statewide deer population problem, they are grossly mistaken IMO. I would much rather see focus and changes on things that will actually matter and make a difference.

If there are 100 RLO 3rd buck tags filled in this state per year I would be surprised. Say it is 300, 500...you are still talking peanuts compared to overall scope of our problem. How many additional bucks, I am not even talking about buttons here, are taken after they shed out in the late antlerless season? How many additional bucks are taken by party hunters filling someone else's tag? I suspect those two numbers dwarf the number of "3rd bucks" taken.

A wise man once told me, "Major on the majors, minor on the minors." And that's how I see the 3rd buck thing, it is MINOR in the overall scope. Let's put our efforts on things that will actually make a difference.

This sounds like the most sensible post in this thread to me. Choose your season, only one. To make that work you could not allow those choosing an Archery anysex tag to also party hunt with a doe tag.

Let me know when you guys figure it out.
 
This might be the dumbest thing I have ever read on here. Now we are complaining about landowners having 3 buck tags. The guys that own all the crops that keep your deer alive? The guys that are planting food plots and planting trees to help your deer survive! Ya I pay 3$ per
Tag but I spend thousands more than the non landowners to feed deer. Just wow. Wow. Man can we complain or cry about something more idiotic than this?
 
How about 1 either sex tag & you can use it for any season,then the landowner & Joe schmo can hunt whenever they want & less bucks will be shot overall leaving more for the future!Problem solved.

I would be fine with one antlered tag if I got to use it during all the seasons. Otherwise give me my three tags and they will go unfilled like this year.
 
The 3rd landowner tag has an effect on buck harvests.
Most hard core guys (us) get bow and late muzzy (single shot rifle) with our two state tags. We'd be happy with that, but then we get that LO tag and can hunt both gun seasons ! Two seasons we should be sitting home.
 
I personally would not be opposed to a one buck rule if the tag was good for all seasons. It would really make a guy think, should I be shooting this if it is my only buck tag or not.

It really does. We have had it since 2002 I think. I passed 4 bucks this year that were 4.5 or older and ended up eating my tag at the end of the year. If I would have had two tags I definitely would have filled one of them knowing I had one back for my trophy....

What I proposed was basically cutting every residents buck tag by one and limiting landowners to 2 doe tags and resident that don't own land to one buck and one doe.
 
I don't get how cutting 2 buck tags a year (bow and gun) to just one is goin to solve low population problems? I totally agree that doe tags should be cut drastically but I don't get why a buck tag has to go too?
