Whats the best feeder to use for creating a shed catching area?
Do you find it effective at spreading out alfalfa hay around feeder?

What are some ideas here?

Ha... funny timing.

Agree!!! Looks great!!!! Alfalfa, sup Feed, mineral & fresh cut junk trees.

What do you like for feeders? Looking to buy one.

Also what feed should I use?
That one pictured is a 1,200 lb trophy feeder https://www.trophyfeeders.com/

No complaints. There are several other similar options. You can also look at spin feeders on timers if you prefer to meter the feed.

We run Big Tine Feed BT40. If you are feeding tons (literally), you can have stuff mixed bulk, but you have to have a transport and loading equipment. Purina antlermax makes a good product but its very pricy. We been happy with the BT40.

(I'm not a fan of running straight corn)

Thank you. I appreciate your insight:)

I have a banks 600 feeder I’d sell for $250. I’m in cwd zone so I can’t feed anymore. Hasn’t been used since 2016.

All these guys in Iowa. That’s too far. If you ever make it to Kansas, hit me up!

I am about 20 miles north of the Iowa border. About 45 minutes from Decorah. If anyone makes it up north I could meet them.

I use the 600# banks feeders. Been feeding this mix for years with good results. 500# roasted soybeans,200# Maximizer concentrate,1250 rolled corn and 50# soy oil.
I feed from the time the season goes out until a month before it comes back in since I live in a non bait state that allows feeding during the off season.

How do you mix this or do you buy in bulk somehow?

I called trophyfeeders.com( 361-649-9565) and they are actually looking for a dealer in Iowa. If anyone is interested in that give them a call. Also, if anyone is interested in ordering 1 or more of these feeders maybe we can place an order and have them delivered. I purchased another farm recently and am looking for a protein feeder to leave out during the summer and this looked like a good option.

Interested in Field's reply. We had Solon Feed Mill grind a special blend of horse feed and I would imagine they would do a deer feed if they have or can source the ingredients. Find a local feed mill and ask is my best advice. Solon would bag or deliver in bulk (for a fee). Don't think they want to drive the truck out into your timber, though. :p

I take 200# of maximizer with me to the feed mill and they custom blend and put it into burlap feed bags just like they mix cow feed for other customers. I even liked this mix better when I could get bulk peanuts by the ton and substitute them for half the soybeans in the mix. I will warn you that it gets expensive once you get the deer on it if you plan to keep the feeders full. However I do think this is a game changer if done consistently enough over the years.
