Pell lime

I bought Pell lime in bulk thinking that would be the best deal, they sold it for $12 a 5 gallon bucket. I should have price shopped it but Menards sells it under $5 per 40lb bag. That seems like a heck of a lot better deal guessing a bucket is around 50lbs. Are there differences in quality of Pell lime? I bought it from the main fertilizer business in our area not imagining it could be more expensive than a box store

I’m sure there’s some variance. They have All sorts of ratings on lime on “how much PH it can adjust per ton” as well as how fast it breaks down. Another is some of the other stuff that gets into lime like magnesium, etc.
bottom line, even the worst pelletized lime is still pretty good stuff. Splitting hairs super. Maybe super cal 98 or whatever might be on better end but I wouldn’t worry bout it. Menards lime will get u fixed up.

Our retailer in town is at $275 a ton for pel lime. I haven’t bought ag lime in a while but I’m thinking at was in the ballpark of $40-$50 a ton for the lime, trucked, and applied.

I want to say I paid about $30 - $35 / ton last winter applied.

50 lb bags of pell lime go for about $7 around "here".

The top 6” on an acre is something like 2,000,000 pounds of soil. If at all possible I would find a way to go with ag lime if your PH is way out of line and if the plot has much size to it. I’ve spread up to 10,000 pounds per acre of ag lime on fields.
I would think a dump trailer or a small manure spreader with a couple tons of ag lime in it and just scoop and spread it out over the plot wouldn’t be terrible. If you’re buying pel lime in buckets or bags you’re going to be lifting it by hand one way or another anyway.
To fix anything over an acre I would be thinking in tons not in buckets.
